I'm thinking about getting a headless Hohner as a travel guitar.
I know I don't like the EMG Select pups.
Have any of you changed pups on a guitar like this ?

i used a Steinberger Spirit for years- changed the pickups to a CC in bridge, hot stack in the middle and cool rails in the neck. love the headless design, hated the 24 frets and how they make the neck pickup sound pretty bad. Get rid of the Selects right away, they just may be the worst pickups to come on a production guitar.

Why would the number of frets mess with pickup tone???
Normal pups drop right in?
Long scale ??? 25.5"

24 frets move the neck pickup away from the harmonic node of the string, and moves it closer to the bridge. for many people, they don't care- i just tend to use neck pickups more than bridge, so i notice the sound change instantly.
most normal pickups drop in- make sure the single coil pickups you choose don't have the triangular base like many strat pickups do.

I play the neck pup a lot so that news is a real drag.
So the neck pup position on this axe is almost where the middle pup is on a strat ?
I guess if I can find a real good deal on one it would be a nice project swappin' the pups out,one at a time.
