Soldano Hot Rod 25. Loaded with 5881's and covered in silver tolex. Pricey as hell too. Very cool but I wish it was about $500 cheaper.

I think I'd rather pick up a used HR50+. I don't really get it, to be honest. It looks like a JCA22H with 5881s in the power section. Maybe the filter is a big deal, but adding one to my JCA20H cost about $16, and it was worth about that much.

5 preamp tubes. same as the slo. nice... wonder what the street price will be? I notice the SLO price on thier site is $4100. They street for about $2999 right??

No. Jet City doesn't have any 5881 heads, I don't think. The twenty watters are all EL84-based, as far as I know. They probably also come with good tubes, which is my biggest Jet City gripe.

Not true.

the 50H, 100H and 100HDM come with 6L6Gs/5881's stock. Yes they can run 6L6GCs, but as with the other soldano designs, even the Jet City high powered heads are designed to run 5881s

I wanted a Soldano sooo bad for years- I was waiting until the Jet City JCA 22H got in the stores for me to try out. I managed to play the 100 watt EVH 5150 III head, it nailed the Soldano tone I wanted, but for $1999, it was steep. Then the 50 watter came out, which if you shop around you can get for $899, which gets you the Soldano tone on Channel 3, with more gain and far less noise than the JCA 22H, and much cheaper than a real Soldano.

Of course it's not an actual Soldano, play it side by side with a Soldano and maybe you can hear the difference, but it nails every Soldano based tone I've thrown at it. By the time you get a JCA 22H and have it modded, you're looking at the price of an EVH

THe price on these is perfectly understandable when you look at the prices of the components.

O'netics transformers £5-600
Clarostat Milspec pots £70
MalloryTC/Panasonic Filter caps £140

and then theres the fact that theyre all hand built individually and wired like a work of art.

However this is something im working on kinda. More a 20w SLO though.

You're absolutely right. My mistake.

Why did I have it in my head that 5881s are higher-powered lower-powered tubes? Probably because of those Krank mini heads that do the same thing.
