The Powerball has indeed got a scooped voicing, but it can be overcome. The trouble with the PB is that it's very picky about it's cabs and you really need to crank the mids to cut through, compared to a Marshall. But you can't generalize this with the whole ENGL line

Ah right, of course. I've just heard it to be true about the Powerball and SE, and assumed they were all voiced somewhat similar. That said, the Blackmore head sounds really ****ing cool.

Re: holy ****! Engl Savage 120!

If it's the channel switching relay, which is probably is, and nothing else is wrong with the amp, it is easy to fix. But, my only worries are that the amp broke, and his friend LISTENED to it, and said "Yeah, broken relay!" which, is very hard to know just by listening to it. So, have him get it fixed and buy it for 887. Still a STEAL, and that way, you can know everything's working.

Re: holy ****! Engl Savage 120!

Buy it for $887 fixed. That way you won't have to worry about a single thing with the amp when it is in your possession. Also, now it's on him as to whether it really is just a relay that went bad or something more. You can't lose with a price like that so I'd jump on it!

Re: holy ****! Engl Savage 120!

lol, damn, now he's offering it for less than he did at first (less than 647 dollars) if I get it fixed myself.. I found out that my father know's a tech that might be able to fix it..Wow, just the thought of me snatching it at this price, and getting it to work is making me wet :laugh2:

Re: holy ****! Engl Savage 120!

Is there any way you can get a trial period with it? Before shelling out the money, it might not be a bad idea to have it looked over by a tech. I'm afraid that there might be something really wrong with it like a blown transformer or something. It sounded like a better deal to have him have it fixed and then have him sell it for $900 (so you know you wouldn't have to put more money into it than you were expecting).

Who knows? Maybe it is just a relay that went bad and it can be fixed for a $100 from a decent amp tech, but I'm just trying to give you some food for thought here :)

Re: holy ****! Engl Savage 120!

Grab it "broken", track down RID, & I'm sure he knows a tech worth a d@mn to fix it.

Engl also has a pretty good customer service rep....tell them you bought it with an issue & they might help you track down a good tech or give a fair assessment if you shipped it to them.

Good luck:beerchug:

Re: holy ****! Engl Savage 120!

Well, the problem is I might not be able to afford one of those techs to repair it, at least not right now :smack:

But I don't know, it's really hard deciding what to do in a case like this. I think we'll think about it some more.

Re: holy ****! Engl Savage 120!

I know a guy that may be able to fix it, but he needs a wiring manual or whatever it's called over the amp (you know, a manual over all the stuff inside of it), and the guy who owns it now says he didn't get one when he bought it..anyone know if it can be found somewhere?

Re: holy ****! Engl Savage 120!

the service manual? try emailing ENGL! it can't hurt to ask :)

Re: holy ****! Engl Savage 120!

Well, I bought a Marshall instead, but thanks for all your help.. I decided it was too big of a risk.

Re: holy ****! Engl Savage 120!

I never saw this: I would NEVER , EVER buy an amplifier that´s not in fully functioning condition. Too many things can go wrong, esp in tube Amps one Issue can quickly cause another if it goes unnoticed... the risk of buying it for 887 and soon after having another 200$ repair would have been too great IMO ;)

And while Engl has great customer service you pay through the nose for non-warranty work, and even if you just put in fresh tubes they´ll generally retube it and drop that charge on top of the actual repair..... at least they did that to my customers a few times... a 100 dollar repair becomes too expensive when there´s another 200$ for tubes and rebiasing involved whether needed or not......

Re: holy ****! Engl Savage 120!

Well yes, that's basically why I decided not to buy..Even though it's a great amp (WHEN IT'S WORKING!) It's too big of a risk.
