Where are you hearing the ad? radio? tv? and what part of north america are you? I used to work for Home Depot and i have not heard any ads in a while but i'll keep my ear open for them......
But my 2 cents to add to session guitarist gear for radio and tv ads.... I used to work at a Guitar store and one of the teachers there does radio and tv sessions.... His main equipement is a 1995 Mexican Standard Strat with Duncan pickups, a Line 6 Pod pro and a Digitech multi effects unit. He somehow feeds the pod into the Digitech unit and then straight into the board. He likes the Speaker Simulators of the Digitech unit better. He told me that most of these jingle musicans use PODS and Squire guitars.... dirt cheap stuff and they save their good gear for other projects.
At least that is how it goes in Toronto...
