Homes for Humbuckers (New Squiers...)

Somehow the existence of these bypassed me until now; close to no places seem to stock them yet. I really love traditional Jazzmasters/Mustangs but have a bunch of humbuckers floating around that I want to try out, and don't feel like messing with the setup of any of my present guitars.

Affinity Jazzmaster, perhaps my next guitar? Affinity necks can bug me, I'd need to spray some tinted lacquer on it or try to buff it out a bit at least. $199 , they'll go on sale for less eventually which is when I'll pick it up. Not too much it has over an Affinity Strat, but the Jazzmaster shape is more appealing/comfortable to me...

...Also, wouldn't be hard to slap some real Jazzmaster pickups in there.

...On the other hand. I COULD pick up one of these Bullet Mustangs for $150 new. They make one in black, but the blue is a special sort of 1990s Playskool garish, what with the primary color finish and the toilet paper white neck contrasting with black everything else... What designer picked that combo? I don't mind 24" scale but again I'm curious about the neck, finish and profile-wise... Moreso than the Jazzmaster. Could be based on the VM, could be some sort of new questionable thing.

Wonder how thick the bodies are too...

This is great! Exactly what I was scheming about to put together, a hardtail Jazzmaster. And then Squier goes and comes out with it!

That affinity Jazzmaster body would have a lot over an affinity strat. No trem which changes the sound and removes a ton of wood and also an oversized body which increases bass. As far as thickness, I'm guessing 1 5/8" +/- 1/8".

For the necks, you're just trying to get me in trouble again for saying unfinished sounds good. Just joking.

Great/essential shapes cleaned up and offered for cheap. This is gold!

They also make this... I actually only have one hardtail guitar, so it wouldn't be a bad addition, but I prefer the Strat hardtail bridge to a Tune-O-Matic.

That looks pretty good. I prefer a strat hardtail bridge to a tune o matic also. But I bet the tune o matic would resonate better than the strat style bridge mounted on top of the pickguard. It also has Jazzmaster pickup routes. Good stuff.

These look like awesome guitars, and great platforms to mod over the course of time. I bet they can really be turned into excellent players with carefully chosen parts.

Where are you looking for these at the sub $200 mark ? Can't find any new squires in that range. I know the affinity strays go for $120-$150 ish second hand.

Just looking at the Fender website. They're not on Guitar Center/Musician's Friend apparently.
