Hot and smooth but articulate-sounding neck pickup recommendations.

Re: Hot and smooth but articulate-sounding neck pickup recommendations.

what about a parallel axis blues saraceno? it's a vintage-y style bridge pickup so it should have enough juice to keep up with a high output bridge and it's meant to be smooth iirc

But what about the Dominion neck? I've heard great things about the set.

FWIW, the Air Norton is a nice warm neck pickup.

Re: Hot and smooth but articulate-sounding neck pickup recommendations.

Sorry, missed that post.

So, warm and articulate, I would vote Air Norton, DMZs tend to match better with DMZs, and Duncans with Duncans, no, I'm not racist, but maybe a little OCD. Actually, each company seems to have a certain "voice", and DMZs interpretation of "vintage" or whatever isn't always the same as Duncan's interpretation.

FWIW, based on the DMZ specs of the Dom neck, I would not consider it to be a tweaked PAF by Duncan standards. It looks more like a PAF Pro (which I never thought was that PAF-ish) with bumped up mids.

You might also look at the Transition neck, very clear and articulate, but not as warm as the AN.

So I slapped a Phat Cat in the neck position of my new PRS SE baritone alongside a Dominion in the bridge position. I gave it a few days. I love the Dominion, but the Phat Cat... yeah, I don't know...

I find the Phat Cat too bright and sorta thin and weak compared to the Dominion. It has nice cleans (albeit, a bit thin), but it's a bit too attack-y, squelchy, and slightly underpowered under tons of gain. I want a humbucker that's smooth-sounding, has a strong output, but that's still clear and articulate.

FWIW, I like the Black Winter Neck and the EMG 81 in the neck position. I want to try something different that matches the Dominion better, though. I know for sure I don't like the '59, Jazz, or PAF Pro.

I'm considering the Air Norton, Liquifire, and D-Activator X Neck from DiMarzio. Perhaps the Slash Bridge (or Neck, even) from Duncan. Is there anything else I should be looking at?

The subject. [emoji108]That’s how a woman should be

It's funny but people who have tried the EVH pickups whether wolfgang or frankenstein all seem to rave about the neck pickup more than the bridge pickup.

I have the Air Norton in the neck of my main axe and I freaking love it. Am definitely getting one for my next axe as well.
If you're into coil splitting, it does the single coil sound very well, although it can get a bit thin in a band setting.
