Hot Rails clean sound?

Re: Hot Rails clean sound?

I used a HR in a strat for 7ish years. You do have to keep the pickup low if you want cleans. They aren't bad, just really thick, heavy on the lows and mids and not a lot of treble. Turn the mids down and the treble up on your clean channel, that should help it. Turning the guitar volume down a notch or two will help too.

Re: Hot Rails clean sound?

Thanks for all the responses, I really like that idea of switching the neck or middle pickup for clean, that's what I do right now. I think I am going to go for a hot rail in the bridge, with a coil tap so that i still have that single coil clean =].

Yeah I know Iron Maiden use them, and they have a sick tone. Can't wait to get my hotrail now.

Re: Hot Rails clean sound?

Would that be the Fast Track 2? I've always been curious about that PU's sound...

Unfortunatly i have NO IDEA !!!

Just read that in a mag some time ago.
I know nothing about DiMarzio's - ta all !

I am sure there can not be many pu's in their line that looks like a Hot Rail, as i thought at first that is what he is using, untill i read the interview !

Re: Hot Rails clean sound?

I had a Fast Track 2 in my Strat's bridge.

Yeah, it was plenty hot for mostly everything you'd get by with a pickup in SC form factor.
You can split/Parallel I guess but there's really no point. Just use the notch position (bridge and middle, wired in parallel either way) and it'd be clean enough.

Re: Hot Rails clean sound?

Thanks, I think I'm just gonna hook it up in series, with a coil tap.

Re: Hot Rails clean sound?

I've got the Hot Rails neck and a Fast Track 2 in my strat copy. The HR clean is... nice, I suppose, pretty usable, dirty it's "rounded". The FT2 though, is a great pickup. Dirty you can get harmonics anywhere, and clean is clear and balanced imo. Both seem to be very loud.
