Hot Rails questions

Will a HR fit in a pickup ring made for a 'bucker? I know there's obviously gonna be room on either side of it, but I just wanna know if it would work.

Also, can anybody compare the Hot Rails to a Dimebucker, tone wise?

Re: Hot Rails questions

A hot rails is a single-coil sized pickup-are you mounting it in full-sized HB rings? That would be a first, my friend!

I'm aware of the size discrepancy... but it'll be going into the bridge position of a Kramer Focus, which is routed for a 'bucker.

Actually, it's not a first.... I got the idea from the guys from Fu Manchu. They both use the Hot Rails in the bridges of their Dan Armstrongs.

Hell yeah! Im glad to know that there is another guy on the forum that likes the 'Ol Bucket...and Fu Manchu for that matter! FWIW...I ran a Lil 59 in a bucker ring for a while once...it worked just fine, looked funny but worked.

Have you seen how the Fu Manchu guys have theirs mounted? The pickup ring is a wood cap the size of a 'bucker ring, but with a single coil cutout. Looks kinda cool, especially on a clear plastic guitar!

And oh yeah, Buckethead rules! Definitely my favorite shredder.

I have seen that...I have a piece of guardplate plastic (B/W/B) thats cut square to fit over a bucker route but it has a single coil size cut out in it...it was well done, it's even beveled and has 4 counter sunk screw holes in it...if I can dig it up soon you're more than welcome to have it.

Wow, that's awesome! Did you ever find an A5 mag? If not, I've got one here, waiting on you :)

Re: Hot Rails questions

I like the HOT RAILS but I have always felt they are little stiff in responsiveness esp. in the high end. I felt the Lil 59 and JB Jr cleared up that problem, though the JB Jr is no where as fat and rude as the Hot Rail.

Re: Hot Rails questions

There's a dude on Ebay that sells these conversion rings and Frets on the net will do them as well!

Thanks for the reminder, I need to get one of these made for my tele.....

I'm definitely not of the "get all your gain from the amp" school of thought, so anything quieter than the HR probably won't be loud enough :)

Although, I did have a Lil' 59 awhile back, in the middle of an Ibanez RG, and it sounded incredible with a Custom.
