Hot Rails VS Air Norton S ?

Re: Hot Rails VS Air Norton S ?

Almost everything, the hotrails is very loud and focused but doesnt have a particular character, This can be good and bad.

The Air norton S is about half as loud and has warm mids and soft highs.

I like the air norton S much more but thats just my opinon they both have their place

are you talking about the neck or bridge models?

Re: Hot Rails VS Air Norton S ?

There is no neck version of the Norton S, though it works really well in both. Sounds about the same in both. I dont find the neck and bridge versions of the hotrails to be too dissimilar in tone. the neck version is a bit tighter in bass and just a tad brighter with lower output.

does the air norton have PAF output or more like a hot singlecoil?

I would put it on par with a low output PAF. The hotrails are really hot even the neck is hotter than a lot of PAF style pickups

Re: Hot Rails VS Air Norton S ?

even if you lower the hot rails neck a good bit?

If you lower it sure, Some pickups can act strange if they are too far from the strings. But i havent tried with hotrails they might be perfectly ok. I know my invaders got weird when low

Invaders are always weird (at least they look weird to me :D i'm sure they're fine pickups!)

Re: Hot Rails VS Air Norton S ?

Hot Rails = Boring, Sterile
Air Norton S = Warm Mud, just like its parent humbucker

Just my opinion. Others will like them both.
