hot rails' wires

on pickups such as the hot rails, the wires are all together in the black insulation. how do i get that off? i dont think wire strippers will work because its not perfectly round, and i wouldnt know what size to use anyway. and once i get that off, what guage are the individual wires?

I just used an utility knife and carefully cut around the insulation and then used my finger nail to pull it off. Gently, don't cut through the insulation and the sheilding.

I just use wire cutters. That's how I learned to strip wires anyway... lol
