Hot Stacks vs. Hot Rails in a Strat...

Re: Hot Stacks vs. Hot Rails in a Strat...

Not even close. A Hot Stack actually has a warm and mellow tone to it. The Hot Rails is over-the-top punchy.

Re: Hot Stacks vs. Hot Rails in a Strat...

I've tried Hot Stacks (middle & neck) and they are not much hotter than regular Strat singles, but with a full warm tone as Artie says. The Hot Rails is an altogether different BEAST as far as I know.

You got THAT right. The HR is one HOT set of rails.

Re: Hot Stacks vs. Hot Rails in a Strat...

I haven't tried the hot stacks but I've had a HR in the bridge of my alder/maple board strat for some time now. I find it to be great for leads- very fat and big sounding. For riffing, it was wayyy too muddy, and I could never dial it out. For cleans, I found it to be almost unuseable- kind of a one trick pony I guess. It's just too hot for my tastes, but it would be great for leads/a rockin metal tone out of a strat. Doesn't Iron Maiden use them?

Re: Hot Stacks vs. Hot Rails in a Strat...

If the hotrails is too muddy in the bridge, try backing it off of the strings a little bit. I have one in my highway 1 strat (alder body and maple neck/fretboard) and it sounds great for riffing. Also, backing it off from the strings helps with balance issues when you have the stock singles in the neck and middle. But as far as to how it compares to the hot stack, I have no idea.
