Hotone Heart Attack

Found a new one cheaper than the average ebay price and thought I'd give this thing a try just for the heck of it.

I gotta say, I'm REALLY impressed! I really didn't expect it to sound this good. At "house" volumes, it sounds pretty darn great. At similar volumes it's a bit darker and looser than my Rectoverb 50 (series I) but it's not necessarily a bad thing, just different. Bass response is surprisingly good too.

If I were to be honest with myself and face the fact that the chances of me playing with a band in the near future as very slim, I could be completely happy with this one and a good cab. It's not gonna cut it with a drummer or anything but it sure is a great amp to play with at home and, for these tones, it pretty much beats any pedal I have built (I pretty much built every boogie/high-gain emulator out there) into a clean amp.

Here's a quick pic, note the size, it's resting on my 5e3 combo (that's the handle you can see there in the back). It really is tiny:

That's a very small amp. Interesting.

Those things sound phenomenal. Based purely on authenticity/accuracy of tone, it's the best Recto clone out there bar none as far as I'm concerned (and that's including the mini-recto).

OK, now I want one.

You know, a month ago I would've thought you were way over the top witht this statement but, while I can't state anything about the mini-recto (never tried it), I know what you mean. It is a great sounding recto and very impressive (not just for the money). I'm sure many will say the opposite just because it's solid state but with the right speakers it's very surprising.

I was gonna build myself an AX84 hi-octane 'cause I wanted a 5w high-gain amp (and wanted to build another amp) but there's absolutely no need now, this just filled the niche right there for a third of the price of the parts and sounds surreal.

Re: Hotone Heart Attack

Truly great little amp. The Purple Wind is also excellent and I would highly recommend checking it out (albeit a different tone than the Heart Attack).

Re: Hotone Heart Attack

Where did you purchase it from? I tried to look it up on musicians friend and they didn't have any listings for it.

It wasn't available locally (nothing is where I live) so I bought it off eBay. Seller was directly from China (named "feelmusic") but he doesn't list them as low as I got mine for... still, he has them cheaper than most US-based sellers on eBay. But you may like to go domestic in your case since you're already in the US. In my case importing from one place or the other didn't change much of anything and it was much cheaper so...

Re: Hotone Heart Attack

Thanks, I will take a look around on line and see what I can find.

Re: Hotone Heart Attack

I've never paid much attention, even though they stock the whole line of amps and tiny pedals at the better Sam Ash stores.

I'll check them out next time.

Re: Hotone Heart Attack

Check www.samash.com

I always thought buying their verb or delay and velcro-ing it to the inside of an amp head would be more convenient than putting a bigger pedal on top of the amp.

Re: Hotone Heart Attack

I saw one on ebay 2-4 days ago for $65,I should have gotten it,but they can be had for $99 & up brand new.

Re: Hotone Heart Attack

Very cool to hear!! Id love to have something with the recto tone without a large commitment. Have you played the mini rec? You made direct comparison, so Im assuming you have...? Been hearing good things bout these lil Ho's.. I see they have pedals now too..

Read my quote again and you'll see that I've never said such a thing... I do own a rectoverb 50. It's great for in-house playing. The mini, I can only assume, would be much louder. This is 5w of SS power so it's really manageable. Barely louder than my Blackheard killer ant (1w) when cranked all the way.

Yeah, I said that. I've played a Mini Rec (guy at the studio we record at owns one..also a Dual Rec) & a Heart Attack (kid at our practice space brought one in the other day) and in terms of Recto tone (yep..I've also played Dual/Triple recto's..including onstage), I'd say the Hotone is pretty much spot on (albeit scaled down obviously), while the Mini Rec is'nt at all really (cool amp...but does'nt have the same low end grunt/push & is just not the same thing ..it's sort of close, but not the same thing like I would say a Heart Attack is..). They have nailed that sound.
