Hotter Tele Pickups....

In my Fender Baja Tele, I have a set of Fender Tex Mex pickups. They're decent but I'm actually looking for something hotter but still somewhat twang. The guitar has an ash body with a maple neck and fretboard. I was thinking about the Duncan Hot set (STL2/STR2).

What thoughts does everyone have? I have experience with a myriad of Tele pickups except this set.

Re: Hotter Tele Pickups....

The Hot set does change the EQ quite a bit, and I don't think the bridge pickup gets that Tele twang (it trades it for a lot more power). I might go with something like the Hot Tele neck, but keep it more in the twang department with the bridge, and go with a Jerry Donahue.

No JD for me. I have owned 5 of them in the past. Good pickup, but not what I'm looking for in this case.

I would talk to Boutique winder like David Plummer aka zhangbucker. He can wind you the perfect balance between hotter wind and Twang.

^ Yep, Zhangbucker was who I thought of even before opening the thread. He is the king of overwound yet classic sounding pickups
