I bought my favorite Lester... used... lemon flame top... USA... for $1000.

It kills. Everyone who picks it up makes an offer... says... "yeah, this one is nice... if you ever sell it..."

Just go out and play a bunch.

Look at the azz end of a Epiphony... 4-6 piece bodies with veneer on top & back.

Who wants that?

Maybe you'll find one or a few that are steller... good for you!

Tone & feel are everything.

I also wouldn't buy a new Gibson with your ex-girlfriends money... so there 'ya go.

well school's out man, so im guessing youll be working around 25-30 hours a week. assuming your job doesnt suck and you get paid at least 7.50/hr you can save up money pretty easily. once you find your "the one" guitar save up about 50% or more of the price. then slap that down as a payment and put it on layaway. then sell all the stuff youre willing to get rid of to make room for the new gear and put that towards your layaway payments. keep saving and making regular payments and you'll be set before you know it man

dude i work 60 hours a week now, one job i make $6 an hour, the other is $2.11 plus tips and lemme tell you, people think 8% tips are acceptable given the economy, even if you do an awesome job

plus both of them are on opposite sides of town so i spend at least $150 a month on gas

i figured it out and if i save as best i can & all that i can pull together about $100-150 a month

that's not les paul income, haha

yikes thats rough. maybe you should find ONE job thats close to home and pays well. i can save 150 a week but then again i dont have any bills or other financial responsibilities

edit: either way, back to your original question. Epiphones are great and if you make sure you get a good one you will be VERY happy. i dont believe in $1000+ guitars :lmao:

For the price there's absolutely nothing wring with Epiphones. I think they happen to be one of the best deals on the market. Of course, like any guitar, play before you buy.

All of mine had been great. Keep in mind they might need some work to get 'em there. But after some essentials, they are excellent sounding and great playing. Be selective when you choose one and give it a thorough examination before taking it home.

I dig all my Epi's. Nothing wrong with them after some mods, IMHO.

Absolutely. You get a decent guitar for the money. Buy them used (in nice condition) and you really get a deal. Upgrade the PU's, and you have a very nice-sounding guitar for a minimal cost.

For day-to-day playing or gigs in small bars with bad acoustics, why put the wear & tear on a guitar that cost a couple thousand dollars? For some guys its a status thing, They have to been seen with "the best." But to me it's poor judgement. Crowded under-sized stage, drunks, & smoke-filled room in a questionable neighborhood. Taking $5,000 worth of guitars & amps to that kind of gig, which pays $100 per man is pretty dumb. And factor in some beach venues with the salt corrosion factor. Who's impressed?

I think you should take advantage of the weakened economy, save up, and grab a Gibson LP Std or Custom at a big loss to the seller. Then be smart and keep it. Develop that method of collecting guitars, and you'll only have to buy once, rather than sifting through midline stuff for too many years. Just my 2 cents.

Agreed. Quality is hit and miss. I'm not gonna say they are bad but I don't like them myself. The paintjobs look cheap as do the rest of the parts. Sitting next to a Gibson Les Paul they just look cheap. Truthfully there have been a handful of Epiphones I thought about buying. Really in the end nothing is like a real Les Paul if that's what you want.

That guitar was made in the Gibson factory right along-side of Gibson ES-330 guitars, so for all intents and purposes, that's a 330 with a different headstock.

Current Korean production of that model isn't on nearly the same plane.

I have an Epiphone (Qingdao) 335 Studio that's great.

I played 4 just like it that sucked bawls though.

But the one I bought is a gem

Every guitar is an individual. If an Epi speaks to you in the right way, buy it.

I love my Epi LP, and Epi Iommi. My Gibson has been collecting too much dust, until this weekend when an SD P-Rails is going in the bridge.:usa1:

As far as electric guitars go, you would be surprised how bad a "Gibson type" guitar I would rather play, over a better above average "Fender style" guitar. I don't mind a longer scale, but I get I get lost with the generally brighter/tighter sounding Fender designs.

i'm not a fan of Epi's electronics for sure... but out of all the Epiphone LP models the only ones that light a bit of gas under me is the LP Customs... as far as LP Copies go i like the looks and feel of those for the money

Touched about 5 today at GC....a few of them were laughable next to the Gibbos. But the Slash signature Epi models were VERY nice and had a lot of 'presence' to them.

The biggest issue I have with most any of their respectable models is the fret work from the factory. I have rarely seen one that didn't need a level and re-crown. Other than that and pickups they are good guitars imo.
