Sure thing. It cn pull of a Mesa Recto, without problem, with plenty of dirt and drive.
I would'nt consider it for say Pantera, BLS and that type of thing.
After all it ain't no high output pickup.

Antiquities also use A2 magnets, so they probably won't have the tightest heavy sound. A5 and Ceramic pickups tend to be tighter.

From what I am witnessing, it handles gain up to about 50 to 70% max on my Vox without going microphobic after that it begins to get a bit iffy. But that said, it sounds incredible under gain.

Thanks for the replies, guys. Seems a bit less appropriate than I would have forethought. Any true single coil pickups which bridge the gap between vintage and modern?
Also, there's a 90's Squier Strat my partner has which, to me, sounds pretty darn decent. Worth going for the aftermarket pickup upgrade, replacing the stocks?

if its japanese, keep it! the jap squiers are awesome guitars, great craftsmanship and quality of materials... they're gradually increasing in value from what i see on ebay, too..
and for a true single coil, i think the SSL-3 is the 'hot' one, so it'll be capable of handling higher gain without being too noisy, and you can turn down with the volume knob..

My JV strat tone knob was useless until I put the Texas Hot in the neck. Just like Imp said. It is sweet. Leave the vol up and roll the tone down or the other way...and the Texas Hot produces tones I never thought I would hear out of my guitar. I love it.

Rain maker which antiquities are you talking about?? The antiquity single coil with A2 magnets? Or the antiquity humbuckers.
I use both: The singlecoils in my strat, and the humbuckers in the heritage.
The single coils aren't meant for high gain. They're meant for chimey, clear, lively clean sounds. And they're very very good under warm drive of a tube amp.
The humbuckers handle high gain really well. I play the heritage at our jams all the time and we play Judas Priest, Van Halen, Iron Maiden, Led Zeppelin, etc... The pickups start feedbacking when you REALLY push it - but it's a good breakup. I usually EQ the amp, pushing the bass to the max - so that those palm mutes sound better. I think, if you need a tighter bottom end, you're better off with a JB or Custom. Antiquities aren't really meant for metal. But do hard rock like no tomorrow.
