how do i change the pickups from my epiphone les paul standard ?? i dont want to mess it up , do i need more than a screw driver?

Re: how do i?????

You'll also need a pretty decent soldering iron and associated accessories.
Plus, you'll need decent soldering skills. If you've never done it before, I'ld suggest getting an inexpensive kit, like one of these:

Jameco audio Kits

Build one. If it works, move on to changing a pup. If it doesn't, hire a tech. ;)

It'll vary from area to area, shop to shop. You should just call a couple and get a quote. There's a couple people in here from Texas though, that could give you a good idea.

(I've always done my own.) ;)

Re: how do i?????

Myself the reason i do it is because i want to know it was done right and i'm cheap. However if you have no idea what to do let a tech do it. In the end at least you'll know (maybe) it was done right.

Re: how do i?????

I just changed the neck pickup in my Les. Not much to it. Remove the cover over the back of the pots and desolder the ground from the back of the volume pot for the position you are changing and the Red wire from the terminal. Flip the guitar back over (Strings removed) and remove the four Screws holdng the pickup mounting ring and pull the pickup out. Remove the pickup from the ring replace it with the new one (make sure the adjustable pole pieces are in the same position as the old pickup) feed the wire down through the boby of the guitar and replace the pickup and ring into the guitar. If it is a 2 conductor pickup solder the metal braid to the back of the volume pot and the other wire to the terminal. You would have to look at the diagrams for a 4 conductor. Just be carefull that you dont get your soldering iron against any other wires.

BTW: Here is a link to a four conductor hook up.

I recommend learning to wire that thing up yourself...I figure changing pickups is just as important to being a guitarist as any chords or scales...

Gotta know how to take care of the thing, right? :D
