How do you like the Gibson 498T in a mix

Did a guitar cover (just half the song) of I Believe In A Thing Called Love by The Darkness (if some of you know that band). I found a very good backing tracking track without guitars, so I added them.

Lead track: Gibson Custom LP Axcess, Marshall Super Lead 1959.
Rhythm track: Gibson Custom LP Axcess, Marshall Super Lead 1959.

I'm happy with the result, I still thinking about changing the stock pickups in my LP Axcess (stock 498T/496R), but after messing again with pickup height, etc. and using the tone control on bridge pickup, I'm starting to like it. I did this to give me an idea how it sounds in a mix. BTW, I was using Greenbacks and mic'ed with the classic SM57. The 1959SLP is an awesome recording amp and live too

Here's the track (on SoundCloud):

Hope you like it!

Cheers!

Mate
That sounds great, I'm a massive fan of The Darkness,I've listened to that album a lot, I think you nailed their sound.
Out of curiosity, what jump suit did you wear while you recorded it?
Cheers

Really nice sound and playing, and, yeah, you really captured the sound of the 498T.

A lot of people don't like the 498T, but I really like it for what you showed here - big high mid spike (functionally 498T is like a JB) that cuts through a mix great.

It's not a pleasant sounding pickup by itself - dry and grainy/spiky - but like the JB or 81, its high mid spike can be very functional in a mix/band context.

I thought it sat very well here. Now the 498T (and pretty much every other stock Gibson pickup) aren't favorites here, but screw the haters. If it works, it works.

I usually like it mixed in with all the other trash in my garbage can. However, that sounded pretty damn good.

Sounds good, but I find it a little lacking in low end or low mids. It's hard to tell if it's the mix or the guitar itself.

Sounds awesome. The 498T is one of my favorite pickups I have it in 3 of my main axes. 1 Gibson and 2 Ibanezs. If people are unhappy with their 498Ts send them to me I will gladly take them.

That sounds fantastic. I love the Darkness and that sounds is usually one of the first ones I play when trying out a new guitar or pickup.
You NAILED it! Great playing and tone, spot on! Honestly, that's what the original track likely was recorded with: LP with a 498T into a Super Lead.

Yeah that particular guitar has a bit less bass than my other LPs, but I think it's good for the 498T, because I find it mushy and muddy when it's in a dark guitar.
