How do you play a 12 string acoustic?

I've never quite understood the concept... do you play it like a string, pushing down two strings at a time... or different?

thanks

They are so close together that you fret a pair of strings as if they were one string

FWIW, chicks absolutely dig the way a 12 string sounds.

12 strings sound great! unless i'm playing, then they just sound mediocre! i'm still trying to get a handle on mine as it sounds a bit sloppy when i play it. for me there is a learning curve for sure. but it's worth it in the long run to get that natural chorus effect.

Then a 12 string electric should have her howling for mercy :D

I like 12 strings a lot. With my vocalist in an acoustic setting, nothing else will match her voice like the "thunder" of a 12 string. But I HAVE figured out why Jimmy Page had a guitar tech. They're not bad to tune, but they're a pain to change strings on!
