How does a Hot Rails sound in parallel?

Hello everybody.

I was wondering what y'all's experiences have been with using parallel wiring with Hot Rails pickups. I ask because I've been considering going noiseless in my solid body tele (currently has a STL-2T in the bridge) and see a LOT of Hot Rails for Tele on ebay.

Would using one in parallel keep some of the tele sound, or is it just a hot humbucker sound all the time? Thanks!

Re: How does a Hot Rails sound in parallel?

It sounds like a clearer humbucker, but not like a Tele. If you still want to keep a Tele sound, get an actual Tele-sounding pickup and boost it with something like a Pickup Booster when you need the higher output.

Re: How does a Hot Rails sound in parallel?

^^^ What he said. The Hot Rails is really cool in parallel. I had a N and M with a JB Jr. in an Iron Maiden Strat some years back. I wired the neck Hot Rails in parallel and it really made a difference in clarity but with plenty of output for what I needed. If that is what you want, go for it. A Tele tone it will not get.

I use a rail type pickup on my Tele style guitar. Sounds close enough for me! Worked for Danny Gatton too. I don’t use actual single coils in any of my guitars.

Are you using Bardens?

Re: How does a Hot Rails sound in parallel?

a barden pup sounds pretty different than a hot rails though

I'm sure it does. The only reason the Hot Rails for Tele is even on my radar is because of how cheaply I can get a used one. They seem to be half the price (on average) of the Duncan Tele stacks or even the Dimarzio Tele rails.

Yup. Kinda been eye-balling the Chopper T as well, tbh. I had one in a strat once and it walked the line between single coil and humbucker very well.

Until recent i used a Fast Track T with much more traditional 60ies Tele sound than the Chopper. Great Pup.

So the Fast Track T is cleanee sounding than the Chopper? Very interesting. I had a Chopper and a Fast Track 1 in the bridge of my MIJ 62RI strat for a while and the FT seemed fatter in that.

Thanks for the heads up!
