can you get away with using a SH duncan instead of a trembucker in a guitar with a locking floyd bridge or a fender type trem?

Just about every artist in the 80's didn't seem to have any problem... I still prefer the sound of the non-trem spaced pickups and have been using them in my Floyd Rose guitars for many years with no tone sacrifices!

I prefer the Trembuckers in a guitar with wider Fender/Floyd style string spacing and I do hear a little weakness in the tone of the high E with a standard spaced humbucker that is corrected by the Trembucker. That's why Seymour makes the Trembucker: to make the two E strings sound better in guitars with the wider string spacing.
But the standard spaced bridge humbucker works fine and most players are not as fussy as I am.

im fairly fussy myself
on my stuff usually the high e is ok, its the low e that doesnt line up for me and like i said, i can usually compensate with a slight adjustment. it is worth noting that i have probably always had higher output buckers in trem guitars, so that may help to compensate for any misalignment.

Raising the polepiece probably helps a little...right?
Something I've noticed with a standard spaced humbucker when the high E polepiece is not centered below the string is that when I bend the high E it'll get a little louder as it is pulled over the the polepiece.
It's little things like that I notice and that bug me a little. But I don't know if it really makes that much difference to other players and it's not like it's a really big deal...it still sounds acceptable.
You know what I notice about the Bardens that I really like? being a rails design there's no space between polepieces like there would be on a standard pickup, so when I bend a note it sustains better and the volume stays consistant throughout the bend with no drop off in response or sustain or volume at all.
