How hard to make a 2 conductor a 4?

I've got a nickel covered CC that has the vintage 2 cond. cable - I want to make it a 4 for the tapping versatility.

I figure, in general terms:
-unsolder the cover, using a solder wick
-removed the cover
-take out the screw poles
-unscrew the baseplate
-desolder the current cable
-solder in a new one
-put it all back together

Problems - will the potting get all screwed up? Will it need to be repotted again? Is it easier just to get a new pickup?

no need to remove the poles.

The 2 wires you need can also be spliced in between the coils, or if you only want splitting you can use 1 spliced into the existing joint... disadvantage is of course that the tap wires won´t be shielded in that case

I've done it and it is a PITA...
I think the time it takes is worth more than the 10 or 20 bucks you might lose just selling it on eBay and buying a 4-conductor one...

It's a pain only if you get confused about which lead is which -- which is easy to do. The actual work of the conversion isn't really a big deal. You just have to remember your color scheme. Depending on the 4-conductor wire you get, you may have to drill out the hole in the baseplate a little wider so it will fit through it.
