How high can I put the APL-1 to the strings

Hi,

Last year, I bought a APTL-1 for my cheaopcaster-tele, and it absolutely made the guitar sound lik God. Although it does not quite have the classic TC twang (probably beacause the guitar itself, not the PU's), it just sounds so completely awesome mildly overdriven/lightly distorted.

However the classic clean sound still eludes me. Is this a pickup thing, a guitar thing, or a bridge thing? I really have no idea. As I said, however, for classic rock/jam, it's just incredible. For "chicken pickin" it just doesn't cut it though.

Hopefully, I just need a little compression (which I don't have yet, on order though) with a higher volume (ouch eviction)

To get that old school Bakersfield/ honky tonk twang sound, you'll need to set your neck almost ruler straight, lower your action until you almost buzz out, and use thin strings (9's are best). A bit of compression sounds cool too, but the real key is to get a bright growly tone out of your bridge pickup, part of which comes from the strings smacking the frets a bit. You won't be able to do huge SRV style bends, but your chicken pickin' will sound oh-so-tasty. :burnout:
