How I made my strat stay in tune

Re: How I made my strat stay in tune

The Seymour pickups and my first leap into trem land will really give
me so much pleasure. Tell Mr. Duncan when you see him that not only
do his pickups offer things for all tastes, he has made it possible for
a disabled guy to find meaning in life though new music that I would
not otherwise pursue without his pickups.
I am not good enough to play a strat and make it sound good
without the help of Duncan Pick Ups, in tune or not!
Sincerely,
Steve Buff.

You can't get a better endorsement for a better pickup company than this.

Thanks 9finger,
It is true, every last word, Duncans make it possible for me to want to learn all over again.
Can you imagine Hendrix with a floyd or locking tuners. His bootlegs are so hard to listen to sometimes, he gets so out of tune with himself and the band.
He always used his trem decked with 5 springs tight. I read from a reliable source that although he did go through a few takes of VooDoo Chile for a film maker, the one on the recording was played straight through, staying in tune, singing and playing one of the best rock/blues solos, songs, sonic bombardments of all time, one take, no overdubs. Unbelievable.

Real trip down memory lane - I am also 59.
Three Dog Night get their asses handed to them by then almost unknown Led Zeppelin.

Yep - it happened at Greenlake Aquatheater - Seattle, Washington, May 1969.

Led Zeppelin, James Taylor and Three Dog Night were all on the same bill.

Led Zeppelin opened for Three Dog Night - it was a shock to the musicians in Three Dog Night exactly what Page and two Marshall stacks could do and make music!

To Sratman-
Were you there? I was on the right of the bleachers, right in front of J. Page. He was waiting to go on and he had his tele on and was carrying his LP in one hand and his Danelecro in the other. He was just standing there and nobody knew who is he was.
They were so exciting, I was stunned how powerful they were. When I saw Jimmy Page ripping his first solo was the day that changed my life forever. I vowed if i lived to be a hundred I would learn how to play guitar like him or die trying.
Well, a couple years later I understood what he was doing and I wore out 3 turntables and 4 copies of LZ 1 and LZ 2 on 16 on my 33 1/2 speed turntable.
I realized that he was mainly playing the blues scales really fast. One thing I must say-the first time I heard his solo on "since I been lovin' you" I fell off my chair and goose bumps raced up my spine as I ran to play it over, again, and again..... that change in F minor, man, the hand of god was on his shoulder that day.
Been chasing the tail of the guitar dragon ever since.
cool, huh?

Re: How I made my strat stay in tune

All this is great information and comments but.... I recently purchased a Clapton strat. I was playing an Ibanez "S" series beforehand but decided to bite the bullet and by a brand new strat. What a disappointment! It would just not stay in tune. One song was all it would last. I never had that problem with my Ibanez even with tremolo use.

After 3 weeks I took it back to the store to return it but the sales guys said I should give the Amer Deluxe Strat a try, locking tuners, etc.... Not too mention more money. So I thought, ok why not? The same exact problem. It's going back this week.

Now, I've read the posts, put new strings on it, have it tuned up, graphite in the nut, etc, etc... But what the heck? I paid just over $400 for the Ibanez and never had any problem with it staying in tune. Only now my fingers don't stretch quite as far and I needed a not so wide neck. The strat was well over a $1,000 and although they sound and play great it just seems wrong that they won't stay in tune.

Am I asking too much? I guess I'm back to looking for a new guitar...anyone have suggestions? I definetely need a thin, flat neck with smaller frets.

Thanks
