Not overly so. Those who like the Jazz Humbuckers often find regular humbuckers to lack treble and to sound a little muffled. I'm one of those guys! I wouldn't worry about them being to trebly...check out Jolly's playing and you'll probably be pretty impressed. He gets a great tone and remember: no humbucker is going to have the extended high end of a good Strat pickup...a Strat or Tele would be much brighter than a Jazz Humbucker, and I don't think of a Strat as being to bright. Seymour once recommended that I use a neck Jazz Humbucker as a bridge pickup...but that was in a Strat with vintage neck and middle single coils. Lew

I have listened to the Jazz and Custom clips and the custom is thicker but not louder .
The Jazz have a good thump in the lows but higher string sound a bit thin and treebly .
My plan is to try a low resistance humb with an alnico8 magnet ; this should be evil : like custom but without compression , with clarity and double punch .

The Jazz bridge doesn't get enough credit. I suppose because it's often thought of as a lower ouput bright pickup. Like all Duncan's it's a great pickup in the right application and can be pretty mean if it needs to be!! That's obvious if you listen to Jolly's clips!! :beerchug:

What string gauge ?
Tuned in E , D lower ?
Any od-dist pedal ?
I don't think the Jazz bridge can sound that heavy straight in the amp .

I'm playing through a Line6 AX2/212. There's a modeled tubescreamer on the clips, but just enough to give it a tad of warmth moreso than overdrive.

Don't forget, the Jazz bridge is listed among the 'progressive' pickups on the Duncan site, not vintage. It's the most overlooked bridge pickup in the whole line, and it HAS to be because the name Jazz scares off most players who woulda used it. The way I view it is 'like a 59B that's punchier and has a bell clear tone. If you counterbalance a bright guitar with a CC, then the Jazz bridge is the one to buy for a darker sounding guitar.
When you crank a Jazz B through a good tube amp, it really accentuates the glassiness of the tube sound....hard to describe. Believe it or not, it's a GREAT pickup for HSS strats, when mated with vintage single coils, because it's fatter than a single coil bridge, but not as middy and heavy as most medium/high output humbuckers. When you flick between a Jazz B and a Surfer neck, it sounds very natural....like a matched HS set. If you want it a little less glassy, just roll back the tone to 8, and it sounds like a 59 or C-5.

I've looked up the Line6 AX2/212 but it doesn't show up on their site, just on others. Was it discontinued?

The JAZZ bridge sounds amazing in a Strat with vintage style single coils and 250k pots... most humbuckers would sound slightly muffled, but the JAZZ balances out really nice

Yeah, absolutely. Anytime I see someone ask about what humbucker to use in a strat with their vintage A5 singles, I try to suggest the Jazz B. One problem is that people hear the word Jazz, bright, or glassy, and don't want to gamble $80, but they're making a mistake! Another problem is that Duncan doesn't advertise the Jazz B in a tremspaced TB version, so people think the poles won't line up in a Strat. It's too bad a company like Duncan has to uphold the chosen names, so they don't confuse people.....it would be better if the Jazz set were called something different, because it's slightly misleading.
At UGD, Kat Dyson picked up Jolly's LP, and was playing it, and said "damn, these pickups are nice, what are these? Jazz's. "That's it, I'm callin Seymo tomorro, and gettin me some!" :laugh2:

Man, JOLLY, Duncan couldn't pay for a better Jazz salesman than you. The clips speak for themselves.
I have been thinking of a Jazz to replace the PG in my Strat.

It may be a good choice for you. I pulled out a C-5 and JB in this strat, and finally settled on the Jazz/2 Surfers. I like it enough to leave this guitar alone forever.

lol, your Strat even looks like mine (except the body on mine is solid black).
I like the output of the PG, but it feels a bit too sloppy for a Strat bridge at times. When I put it in 5 years ago it suited my style quite well, but nowadays I expect a more articulate sound from my Fenders. Like many, I assumed that the Jazz wouldn't have the output or low end thump I need from a humbucker, but hearing JOLLY's clips has busted that myth. The Jazz Bridge is truly an underrated pickup.
As for the middle and neck, I am leaning towards a pair of Fender Fat 50's.
