A head or a combo counts, as does a rack-based solution. A head or rack amp counts even if you don't have a dedicated cabinet for it. If you have a preamp pedal and a pedalboard or rack power amp, that counts as an amp. I suppose a small battery-powered mini amp also counts. For extra fun, post pics of your smallest amps.

Amps:
1.) Marshall JVM 410H head
2.) Hughes & Kettner Tubemeister 18 30th Anniversary head
3.) Fender Hot Rod Deluxe III combo
4.) Fender Performer 650 combo
5.) Honeytone (formerly Danelectro) battery-powered mini amp
6.) Mini Amp battery-powered mini amp ($1 fleamarket special)

Cabs:
1.) Marshall JCM 900 1960A w/ two G12-T75, two Mesa V30's
2.) Empty cabinet from a blue-stripe Peavey Bandit w/ Reverend All-Tone 1250

Re: How many amplifiers do you own?

Eight if we're counting battery amps...

'69 Fender Bassman on matching '69 2x12 with original speakers
'73 Sunn model T on matching '70s 2x15 with original speakers
'73 Orange Reverb Twin combo with original speakers
'93 Orange Overdrive 80 on Electric 6x12 serial #2 with Eminence Manowars
'01 Matamp Classic 120 on '90s Matamp 4x12 with Celestion Hot 100s and '90s Sunn 4x12 with Celestion G12T-75s
'05 Epiphone Valve Junior on '13 Emperor 2x12 with Eminence Swamp Thangs
'09 Marshall Class 5 combo with original speaker
Orange CR3 battery amp

I mix up the heads and cabs a lot depending on the scenario but those are their "homes" so to speak. I don't play them as a big wall of sound as often as I'd like to anymore, but they're all similar amps that have distinct personalities and they inspire different things so it's nice having the options. Lately I've been running the Reverb Twin dry with a touch of its reverb and trem in stereo with the Overdrive and Emperor 2x12 for my dirt pedals and i honestly don't believe I'll ever have better tone. :smokin:

Re: How many amplifiers do you own?

Since rack-based amps don't count: 1, soon 0. :D It is a Crate Vintage Club 50, which I bought from my guitar teacher almost 15 years ago. It is a good amp in its own right, but I don't care for the combo format, and it is quite simply not voiced in a way that I find very useful for my own purposes.

Re: How many amplifiers do you own?

Amps:

Peavey Bandit Silver Stripe
Peavey Classic VT
Marshall Mode Four
Bugera V5

Cabs:
JCM900 1960 Lead 412 w/GT75s
Bugera 212V-BK

Rack gear counts. A preamp and power amp count the same as a head, as does a rack-mounded head.

Re: How many amplifiers do you own?

Currently 3

Egnater Rebel 30, 70's Traynor Bassmaster, Orange Micro Dark.

Soon, I'll be adding a Vox MA-50. Waiting for it to arrive.

Re: How many amplifiers do you own?

Three.

  • DIY Marshall 18 Watter clone 1-12 combo
  • Muchxs custom blackface Champ clone head (in a recycled '70s Univox SS amp chassis), paired with a Lopoline 1-12 cabinet
  • Vox MV50 "Rock" mini-amp, paired with the Lopoline cab, or with the shell from a blown-up Peavey Rage, repurposed as a 1-8" cabinet.

I think it's hysterical that the 50-watt Vox head is smaller than my Scarlett 2i2 interface. I was in a music store today, and they have the MV50's chained and padlocked to larger amps to keep them from walking away.

Re: How many amplifiers do you own?

1) Egnater Tweaker 15 head. It has seen some tubes rolled in and out in the past, but currently it has the stock EHX 6V6 power tubes and a Tungsol 12AX7 in V1. Beautiful sounding thing, I used to be pretty hardcore about using an EQ in the loop to get it right, but I've found that it shines by letting it do it's thing naturally. It's a smooth, vintage-flavored amp that easily compresses, it loves single coils and with the right boost in front and humbuckers it will do Hard Rock easily.

2) Blackstar ID Core 40 Stereo head, which is a bit of a hassle. Some functions are dependant of using the Blackstar Insider software, and it doesn't work with Windows 10. However, as a set and forget amp it sounds excellent. Beautiful clean sounds, compresses really nice and with an OD in the front it makes for a nice little mean head.

I'd happily gig with it, since it's already pretty loud at 20 watts, and even more so when set to 40.
I normally play both at home at the same time, with a hint of breakup, through both outputs of my M13.
The Blackstar through my 1x12 sounds quick, twangy and snappy, the Tweaker through my 2x12 is thicker and meaty in the mids and lows. It's a tremendous combination.

Re: How many amplifiers do you own?

I've owned 2 of these and sold both because I kept convincing myself I had all the amp I needed elsewhere.

I want one again...

What kind of sounds do you like from it? I always thought that Marshall was sort of the ultimate cheapo SS head for heavy sounds,
but recently I tried the Orange Crush 120 head and holy ****, it's so good. I'd happily rock one of those forever, it's all the amp I'd ever need I think.

I dig three good, useable channels. Yeah, it does heavy really good and I found each of the two for less than $100. I made money on both. The second one was even in great shape. I should call that guy...

I can't see paying Orange money when I'm only Peavey skill level. [emoji16] I like my Mode Four well enough. Man, is it loud af though.

How many amplifiers do you own?

3 at the moment:

1) Whitney Custom Monkey - very custom - everything I need from an amp [emoji1]
2) 1998 Budda Verbmaster 18 - still a f**kin' fantastic tone
3) Mesa Rectoverb 25 - my grab-it-and-go amp

I've had a few others over the years, though my ear is pretty developed, so I'm not over the top.

The only one I regret letting go was my Vox AC30CC2X - too heavy, too loud, but my-oh-my what tones!

My back up, if-everything-dies amp is a Sansamp FlyRig5 - amazing bit of kit.

Also two cheap solid state practice amps and a couple of old power amps not currently in use.

Re: How many amplifiers do you own?

Smallest "amp". The Marshall MS-2.

Fuzzy as hell, lots of fun to slip onto the pocket and walk around the house testing the acoustics of different rooms - kitchen is the best. If you don't have one, get one, they're brilliant.
