How many guitars do you have?

I have way the fuck too many right now at six electric guitars, one acoustic, one bass guitar. I love 'em all for different things and play them all, but that's a stupid number of guitars in the house. Next year I'm going to thin down to four electrics at most.

Current count, as of Today; 39

However, let's break that down...

4 Les Pauls - 1 Custom, 2 standards, and a studio. Because I love them.
6 Dean Cadillacs - because I play in a hair band
4 V's - 2 Dean's, 2 Jackson's, again, hair band
3 Epiphone Semi-hollows; 2 Dot Studio's and a 339
7 assorted super-ish Strat styles (Kramers, Jacksons, Deans)
1 Fender USA Strat
1 Squire Hello Kitty Strat
1 Telecaster
1 BC Rich Bich
1 Les Paul Copy
4 basses: 5 string, Squire PJ, Jackson, and a Dean Metalman
5 Acoustics: 12 string, 3-6 strings, and a classical

And an Ibanez Iceman!

I will say - I rarely pay more than $299 for a guitar. I am patient, not very impulsive, and wait for the right moment.

i mean, are we asking the right question here? Isn't the right question "How many guitars do I don't have yet?"

Ive sold 4 this year, and have around 30 -but none are collector items other than 3 guitars were used on various albums that many people on the forum would own or know well -I either bought or traded for them from the artist -all of my guitars are player grade tools for recording in the studio or gigging -I don't have any for prospecting or for value etc etc...

I plan on getting down the total count to about a dozen in the next years as I reduce my lifestyle and footprint, and travel even more.

If I had to select the "keepers" today

All Les Pauls, Iceman, BC Rich, Strat, Tele, 339, 1 Dot, Jackson Dinky, Dean 350, Jackson Bass, Takamine & Ovation acoustics.
14 + maybe 2/3 Cadillacs.

I cannot resist a real bargain and currently own 10 electrics and 6 acoustics .The electrics comprise 4 Tele types ( all have different pup configurations) , a Strat, a Washburn Idol W166 Pro.(love this one) , a South Korean made Schecter Elite (another great guitar) , a Gretsch Electromatic, a Harley Benton PRS copy, and a Washburn HB35 semi hollow body (this is actually kept in the US with one of the acoustics.)

Like Aceman my collection comprises primarily pre owned guitars acquired at budget prices. The only guitar I have ever purchased new was the Harley Benton. Most of the Acoustics were thrift store finds.

I regularly visit family and friends in the US and did particularly well in a buying spree there in late 2008 when the exchange rate was 2 bucks to the pound . Travelling off peak I managed to get them all back to the UK as hand luggage over several years. Except for a Washburn HB35 which I left there to use during my visits.

The US purchases included a Gibson Standard which some years later produced a good profit when I sold. it..I rarely played it as it was a bit of a back breaker weight wise. This was the only guitar I have ever sold.

This is embarrassing, but I don't know. My oldest kid has a bunch of them, and we just moved, haven't built a new rack yet, so they're kind of scattered about.

Out of everything I have, if the building was on fire or some other horrible forced choice scenario, I would do my best to save the Gibson Gothic Explorer, the Taylor 615ce (maple jumbo), and the Ibanez SR1006 (6-string bass). If I could only pick one it would have to be the Gibson. Been with me through thick and thin.

I've owned 13-15 unique guitars over the years, including bass & acoustics here & there. The most I've had at once was 7. Right now I'm at 4.
