How many single coil sized HB pickups are there???

I'm sure there are loads of threads on this but I'm still stuck. I don't want a full loud Humbucker - I've got guitars with JB's and Evolutions.

What I wanted was single coils but after trying a few bridge ones I found them too thin and harsh. I realize its probably because I'm so used to a high output humbucker.

Are there any single coil sized HB's that are more spanky and single coil like but not thin and overly bright.

I'd like to play stuff like yngwie and blackmore stuff and they always got fat tones out of the bridge. Maybe there are pickups that split well idk....

Cheers and soz if this has been asked a lot.:bigthumb:

I had a Super Distortion S for awhile. Very thick sounding single coil sized pickup, but it mixed with Texas Specials very well.

The Texas Special bridge isn't a humbucker, but it's not a thin sounding single, either. With a good amount of gain and the tone knob rolled back, it gets into humbucker territory.

Oh and the Dimarzio Fast 1&2.
I really like the 2.

You mentioned Blackmore and the Quarter Pound came to mind. Have you looked into those?

If you like Blackmore, you might want to checkout the Tom Anderson SF2

It's a "stacked" pickup that retains the single coil vibe while providing enough additional output and midrange to push your amp harder for a crunchier single coil sound.

If it doesn't have to be a side-by-side humbucker, then the STK-S6 Custom Stack Plus or STK-S9b Hot Stack Plus are good places to start, along with the YJM pickups.

Custom Stack Plus is the noise-cancelling version of the SSL-6 Custom Flat version of the SSL-5 Custom Staggered. Which is the non-prototype/custom shop version of David Gilmour's Seymour Duncan bridge pickup. Warm, but still stratty.

STK-S9b is the stack version of the SSL-3 Hot Strat. Hot humbuckery rolled off high end and huge midrange, but with the focus, attack and bass of a single coil.

Quarter Pounds are pretty popular with Blackmore fans, though he used the Schecter F500T (Schecter apparently makes a modern, and even stack take on it, but at least the modern ones are ceramic magnet and 1/4" steel polepieces). I wish SD did a Stack Plus Quarter Pounder.

If it has to be side-by-side, JBjr, lil' Screamin' Demon, Lil' 59, Pearly Gates JR, Red Devil, Hot Rails and Cool Rails are what come to mind. But if you are chasing Blackmore & YJM tones, probably not the right options.

Dimarzio rails arent overly bright or thin. FT1 & Ctuiser Bridge are good starting points, injector Bridge as well.

Thanks this list is pretty comprehensive - i only was thinking of the jb jr and lil 59 because i heard they do maintain the stratty ness altho idk if thats true or not. I do want a single coil but a fat warm one. Ill take a look at the custom and hot stack pickups

I wouldn't think the JB Jr nor the Little 59 maintain any kind of Stratty-ness. Maybe in parallel. But in series, they don't have the same kind of chime to me at all.

STK-S6. You might also like the CR bridge as well.
