How Much Do You Think This Guitar Is Worth

I'm really jonesing for an LP, but with the Holidays and having to buy 2 round trip airfares for my daughter in the next 2 months, I really can't justify spending $1500-2000 for the real deal. Yeah, I can probably afford to buy the real thing, and pay cash, but I'm trying to keep some money in savings, and not cash strap myself.

Also, $115 for shipping seems a little steep. What do you guys think?

Re: How Much Do You Think This Guitar Is Worth

well it is in japan.....

however, i think its most likely just gas. let it pass on (no pun intended).

Re: How Much Do You Think This Guitar Is Worth

Im guessing it will hit 650-700. Those Japan models were way better than current epis. I used to have a epi custom that was from Japan, even had the "gibson" headstock shape. It was very very nice. All them tokyo guys charge 115-120 for shipping. I know thats high. But once you spend 7-8 to get it hear and another 150 for electronics?????????? Without being able to "touch" it first? I dont know

Re: How Much Do You Think This Guitar Is Worth

I'd just save some money and buy the real thing a little later... to avoid doing what you did with that import hamer... Nice guitar but you'll probably end-up selling it soon after you got it... Just my opinion tho...

Re: How Much Do You Think This Guitar Is Worth

i'd hold off if i were you and pickup a classic

Re: How Much Do You Think This Guitar Is Worth

the made in Japan Epiphones are KILLER guitars, and have features that you'd have to pay 3k + to get on a USA Gibson...the Orville guitars are good to...the Orville and the Orville by Gibson are the SAME guitar except the BY Gibson guitars have USA pickups...take that for what it's worth.

Re: How Much Do You Think This Guitar Is Worth

I would just wait till christmas time(people sell a lot to get money before xmas, people get rid of gifts after xmas) If you don't have ape hands than I would get a classic, if your hands are that big then either wait a bit for a standard or get an orville or somthin. If you wait for it I bet you could find a honeyburst(I'm takin it thats what your after)classic for 1 grand. I got mine for 1100 with no shipping.

I don't know about the 3k+ statement because I believe that epiphone has a photoflame top

Re: How Much Do You Think This Guitar Is Worth

Yeah....the thing that pequed my interest in this one was the top. I'm really a fan of the Honeyburst, or other similar light brown bursts. At this point in my life, I'm over the Cherry Sunburst....most of the one's I see are far to red and the transition is to abrupt. I've had my eye on Heritage LP's also, so I thought this might be a good alternative to that.....

I like the Classics, but absolutely HATE the puke yellow inserts. When I do buy a Gibby LP it will either be a 57' Re-issue Gold Top, an early to mid 90's Standard, or a 59' Reissue. I'll probably just watch this one and see what it goes for. If I could pick it up for $500 shipped, I'd probably jump on it, but more than that I can score a Heritage. I just really fell in love with the top on the one in the auction. It's not that rare a guitar, so I'll just keep my eyes open.

Thanks for the reply's.

A lot of them do. The specifics in this auction say Mahogany body, Maple top with a Maple laminate, not foto....but it's buyer beware on the foreign guitars for sure. I know some folks are really sold on the Tokai Love Rock, Burny and other LP copies from the Far East. It could be a killer axe, or a dog....anybody's guess. At least it has the correct headstock shape.

Re: How Much Do You Think This Guitar Is Worth

Don't do it, both the Epi I had and my son's had to have the frets leveled and the electric are so so plus pickups.

It would be ok if you could score one cheap I won't have one again.

Re: How Much Do You Think This Guitar Is Worth

Get a USA Hamer instead...you know you want one. :newangel:

Re: How Much Do You Think This Guitar Is Worth

Jeff but you have a dean hardtail. Isn't it the exact same thing? Stoppiece, 2 humbuckers flamed top, heritage burst.

I'd say just spend more time playing. Anyone could use improvement...

Every time i'm looking for a new piece of gear for the wack of it, i realize that I'm only sublimating from practicing the guitar.

Re: How Much Do You Think This Guitar Is Worth

I had an Epi Japan LP Custom, butnut has it now. It is quite a nice guitar. They use Japanese mini-pots which tend to get scratchy from time to time and the bridge has a different spacing than both US or Korean spec. I would recommend an F-spaced bridge pup if you upgrade. All the woods will be fine and it is not a phototop. I would guess $700 for that piece on ebay, more than that and you start ot get into used Studio territory. I am not a big Studio fan but if you spend the time to look youcan find some real nice ones.

That Orville auction is for a lower end model, the Orville by Gibson line is the higher end. Still not a bad guitar though.

If I were you Jeff I would hold off, the difference between a really nice copy and the real thing is noticeable. With the nice Dean that you have you are not going to be hitting the LP all that much unless it is a real player. There are a lot of nice LP's in the 1200-1600 dollar range it is really worth the time to find one.

Likely yours were Korean made not Japanese. Not a lot of recent Japanese made Epi's in the US unless you count the Elite/Elitist line. The Japanese versions are made in the same factory the Orville lines were made in, they changed over to Epi a few years back.

Re: How Much Do You Think This Guitar Is Worth

Dudes actually look at the photos you can see the 2 different types of wood in the open pickup cavity.

Re: How Much Do You Think This Guitar Is Worth

It looks cool but i wouldn't pay more than 450 for it. It's only worth what you're willing to pay for it. ;)
