How much does your main guitar weigh?

Re: How much does your main guitar weigh?

I have a different main guitar every day..... so.... I have 2 that are light like 7 lbs... two that are like 10.5 lbs, and other 2 are right at 9 lbs

+1. My 'main guitar' is whatever I'm in the mood for, but most of my LP's and 335's weigh around 8 or 9+ lbs. Once I put a guitar on, I never notice the weight, unless it's a lighweight (full) hollowbody. Most of my playing is standing, but then at 6'5" and 260lbs, a 10 lb guitar isn't a big deal. If I was a foot shorter, a 10 lb guitar would probably seem like a boat anchor.

I dunno, man. It's always the tall guys I hear complaining about back problems! When you're a little guy, like me, with a body built for landscaping, lower back problems don't seem to show up often.

1. 73 LPC 9lbs (so much for Norlin boat anchors...)
2. 97 Hamer Vector Korina 7.2lbs
3. 87-88 Burny LPC 10lbs

The others:
10 LP Traditional Pro 9.5lbs
93 LP Classic Plus 9.5lbs
04 Kaufman EN-V 8lbs
99 Dean Czech Caddy 8lbs
77 Ibanez 2630 8.5 lbs
74 LP Signature 6lbs (don't freak-it's the weirdo 330-looking hollowbody)

These are the ones I brought on deployment. I'm lucky enough to have my own storeroom with plenty of space so I took advantage. The first 3 are the first in order of play and the others just rotate in and out. The Burny might be #1 but for the little frets, which, imho, is what holds most of them back, and the stock pups, which are just ok. The Ibby needs a new nut, too, and the Kaufman could do with a lighter set of tuners. The Grovers make it neck dive just enough to piss me off.

"Storeroom?"

"Plenty of space?"

Man. Is that really what life is like on the surface? One person gets his own secure storeroom big enough for NINE guitars?

Yep. Well, kinda. M-Div has a storeroom, inner and outer, and the outer is for all the Reactor Department lifting/handling equipment (chainfalls, ratchet hoists, and associated specific brackets) and the inner is air-conditioned with countless vidmars for spare parts. A couple guys work for me up here, one of which has a heavy bag, a lot of weights, and an elliptical, and I have these 9 geets, a little Behringer practice amp, and a *ahem* half stack. I've wanted to own this space since my first time at sea, 12 years ago, and I finally have it, 3 ships later.

So, is AZ going to return to this thread or is it the noo "Iceman NGD Disappointment" thread? :naughty:

Re: How much does your main guitar weigh?

I had back surgery a year ago, and i still am not 100%, but my Hamer @ 10 pounds doesnt bother me nearly as bad it would have pre surgery, when i really needed something around 6-7 pounds to be comfy. Which is weird cos i have lost my strength in other ways since the surgery, that wasnt a problem for me before.

Maybe my sawbones was a guitar player.

Re: How much does your main guitar weigh?

Another reason people think carved-top Pauls are heavy is because they are small, but thick. Most of the weight is concentrated in one compact lump. A Strat might weight just as much, but they are big guitars, so the weight is spread out differently. LPs are tiny little suckers in comparison.

Yeah, us tall guys are always having bend over to reach things, and hitting our heads on things other people clear. It's not all 'beer and skittles' being tall.

Re: How much does your main guitar weigh?

my strat is 9.2 pounds. Fairly heavy alder, but it gets a big sound compared to other twangier/quackier strats. I guess this is why it can cop Les Paul sounds so well with PAF's and dlx minis

Re: How much does your main guitar weigh?

How are you guys weighing your guitars?

Would never trust a bathroom scale's accuracy or precision, and the only other way is to take it to the deli or the post office.

I have one of these digital scales:

I have one of these digital scales:

That is acceptable / perfect. I just don't know how anyone without one of those is doing it. Or am I the only guy without a scientific scale at home?
