How Much have You Spent on Gear Since Day 1?

If you added up the price of everything you've ever bought regarding guitar gear, or even studio gear, how much do you think it would be?

I realize that some people have a few pieces of equipment, and some have gone downright batty, but what's your best estimate? How much?

what's that? $2050? something like that, I think. But lucky me, I've managed to get a Strat, a second amp, and an old LP knockoff for free... I beg, borrow, and steal a lot. Free stuff is good.

About £1,400 ($2,565) - and another £500 on the way when I get my JCM800 head.

That's not including Books, DVD's and Lessons.

Total in 2 years -- €2000!! not too bad considering what i got with that €2k
Which at present is $2,437!!

With people starving the world over, suffering from AIDS, and orphans living on the streets, I'm ashamed to say that I've spent more just on strings if I added them all up, then I've probably spent to help eliminate suffering... :saeek:

Including recording software, mic's, outboard HD recorder, 4 track portastudios, mixing consoles, monitors, sound baffles, etc? Besides instrumenst, amplifiers and accessories?

Hmmm ... not sure. I'm gonna go with $15k as a safe number, tho.

over a three year period:

Peavey Wolfgang: $900
Hamer Studio: $650
Classic 50 plus parts to mod it: $425
new Strat project: projected in the $500 range
tubes, repairs, mods, setups (before I learned to do this stuff myself): roughly $200
pedals: $400 (would be much lower if I didn't spring for that analog delay.)
new pickups, with resale value of the old ones factored in: roughly $200

who knows how much I've spent on things like pots, strings, lemon oil, polish, shielding paint, cables, etc.

Then again, I've also made money by buying broken stuff dirt cheap, fixing it, and then selling it for a reasonable used market value. I once picked up a vintage MXR phase 90 for $25, fixed it with $10 worth of parts, and then sold it for $150. I've done that several times, mostly to improve my repair skills and make a little money. After seeing how much some of you have spent, I don't feel too guilty though.

Lew, you're killing me brother!

I'd say right now, I have about $12.5k sitting here. So, what I've spent, buying and selling over the last 30+ years would be around $16-17k. It's only gotten really bad since I discovered the internet and message boards.

I won't list everything out of embarrassment.

Also, don't forget the instruction books, VHS and DVD's! Those things ain't cheap either.

ive spent 1800 in 2 years.... but am selling the hiwatt half stack for 1200 and bought it for 950......so thats a good profit, eh the tactics of gearjoneser lol......
