How much is a 70s Orange Cab worth without the speakers?

Hey guys.

I'm trying to sell a Laney amp on Ebay at the minute, and I've received a phonecall from a guy who wanted more info about the amp.

We got talkng and I mentioned that I was using the Laney amp with an old 70's Orange cab. He then goes on to ask about the Orange cab as he has an old Prange head and would like the cab to match.

I love the sound of the Orange cab with my JCM800, so would never think of selling it. He then asks if I would consider selling the cab with no speakers, so then I could keep the speakers and just put them in a different cab.

Is this a good idea? How much would the Cab be worth without speakers? bearing in mind that the cab got re-finished as a Marshall cab by some misguided soul :) The guy knows this and is happy to re-store it to its original state.

Any advice is appreciated.

Craig,

From what I've seen of Orange cabs they are REALLY well made. The other guitarist in my last band had an Orange 2x12 and it sounded superb and was built like a brick... outhouse. I'd go as far ar to say they are better constructed than Marshall cabs. If you really like the sound of it I say keep it - the speakers will almost certainly sound different in a different cab. But then I'm a cautious soul!

I've no idea about the value - sorry.

Thanx for the reply Simon.

I really like the sound of my JCM800 2210 with a little gain and alot of volume :D The Greenbacks and McKenzie speakers in the cab breakup at semi loud volume, which I like when I'm playing 60s and 70s Rock stuff :)

The guy that asked about the cab was very adamant about buying it tho! He offered me £250 for the cab, but that was with speakers.

At the moment I'm a little against selling it as I finally have a live sound that I like, and I don't really want to mess with that :)

I'd love an Orange head to go with it, but I don't have enough gear I could sell to afford 1!

Thanx again for the reply Simon

Hmm, I don't know. Since the cab is refinished and don't have the original speakers (or is the greenbacks original?) I'd guess 250-300 is a fair price for it with speakers. Without the speakers, maybe 150-200? I don't know, it's not something you see alot on the market...

i say if you dont desperately need the money, dont sell it. if you like your sound, especially in a live setting, dont mess with it

Thanx for the replies guys.

The speakers that are in the cab are original as far as I know. I'm not really in-need of the cash, so I don't think I'll sell the cab. I'm only selling my Laney head and Epi LP with 59s because I don't really need them and want to buy some studio equipment :)

Thanx again for the posts guys.

Keep the cab, if it is integral to your sound it's silly to let it go. Orange stuff is pricey so I bet it is intriguing but you'll be bummed if you can't get the tone you want again.
