How much is considered overwound?

Just a quick basic question here.. On say a Ant2 Firebird neck p/u that specs say should be wound @ 6.4k , what range would you consider it as being somewhat overwound..? or how high before it make any perceivable difference..

Re: How much is considered overwound?

id say +5% would be overwound and noticeable. dcr will vary so im talking about 5% more turns

Re: How much is considered overwound?

Most likely, yes.

Resistance changes with temperature, tension, batches of wire, etc. Generally speaking, the turn count is more important and it's highly unlikely that your pickup has an extra turns.

Thanks Jeremy, I've been reading up on the FireBird's for a while now and have seen you use and like them a lot.. Matter of fact it's kind of hard to find anyone that does not like them.. I think that's a good sign..
I am looking at a pair right now.. negotiating ..lol

I'll either put them in a Mex Fender Jaguarillo that currently has a pair of P90's or in my next planned build..
I want to build out a Mustang body with a Tele neck (gibson scale) with a tele half bridge with the bridge / neck FireBirds...
I have really been impressed with most Firebird demos I have heard ..
Thanks again for your input.
