How much would Guitar Centre give me for this amp?

I have a Marshall AVT-50, Valvestate 2000 preamp and I want to sell it back to Guitar Centre. I bought it last September, so it's not even a year old. It is retailing there for $579, and I don't really want to go back to Guitar Centre to ask them this question. It is in mint condition. I forgot to yesterday..... so how much could i get for this?

My experience with them is that they only wanna give you about 30% of its value. You're better off running a newspaper ad or ebay.

Guitar Center's policy is to give you 25% of what it's worth. Then they sell it for 75% of what it's worth. Same with car dealerships. Never trade with retailers.

It's best to write up an impressive description and advertise it locally for cash.

yeah, you'll get screwed..... GC is a big place w/ friendly ppl, but its still a store, kinda like a wal*mart for guitarists, so you'll most likely get screwed over...

I have to agree With all so far, Never try to sell your gear to a retailler !!
Maybe you could work out a trade and do better, But they always get
the better deal :smack: If all ya want is money... I'm sure they'll be kind
enuff to offer you the monatary equililant of a bucket of spit for it??
Stay away from them places.

Haha.... yeah. I go to the one in Atlanta. But i will sell it somewhere else and use my contacts within the store to get a bargain on the amp I shall replace it with. :fing25:

they usually give you a decent deal if you trade it in for other stuff though.

Haha... I agree with you guys. I was trying to sell my Gibson Les Paul Standard. Gguitars said that depending on the condition they'd give me around $500... I'd have it be a f*cking moron to sell them for anything remotely close to that :laugh2:

I tried to trade in a Crate BV combo before there, they flat out told me I'd be better off selling it to a friend or eBaying it. They said what they do is look in their bluebook for how much they'd sell it in-store for, then give you about half of that.

OY: Chris, Saosin is HUGE over here, tons of people at local shows wearing their shirts all over. I didn't think you we're into that kind of music...cool.
