How much would you pay?

For a JCM-900 model 2100 MkIII 100 watt head in absolutely abysmal condition. Definitely blown Power tranny, recently replaced power tube socket because it arced to the chassis and God only knows what else is wrong with it. The cab is completely devoid of tolex and it's ROUGH looking. The chassis looks nasty as can be. Boards look more or less OK. Lots of missing hardware that bolts the power board into place and the mount hardware to the back panel is partially missing. Knobs are missing the gold caps on the front panel. Faceplate is scratched up a bit. Marshall logo is missing. Power tubes are completely mismatched.

What is the max you would be willing to pay for such an amp. Tolex is $18 per linear yard and you'll need roughly 2 yards at least for the whole amp. Power tranny is $117-127. Knobs are $18 each and you'll need a minimum of two. Logo is $22. A new quad of good EL-34 tubes is $100.

That's $311 - $321 right there out of pocket not to mention the sanding pads, to clean the exterior of the amp cabinet and the contact cement to keep the tolex adhered to the amp and the tons of sweat equity needed to bring this cool old amp back up to spec and any unforseen damage that prevents this amp from running correctly.

What would you pay for this amp?

I would not pay more than $200 shipped...

though after all the trouble you might just be better off looking for one in better condition...

$390? Are people on ******* crack? That's worth $150 tops. If the tranny is blown that's essentially half the value of the amp shot alone (not to mention all the other things that could be wrong).

I see these things around all day long for $500-600. Why even both restoring it if you're paying that much for an obviously abused piece? I don't get people.

You could give me $150 to take it off your hands...

The local consignment shop has a 900SLX in 'gigged' condition for I think $600 something... and like, that one works!

...just for comparison I got my MKIII 50 watt(2500) for $600 in MINT condish with all new tunes...fully serviced.....

can someone give me a run down of variations of the 900s and what is good and not good?

I know from experience the dual verbs suck...also the SL-X just has a extra 12AX7 for more saturation right?

My thoughts exactly. I can't fathom WHY anyone would pay that much for an amp that was so severly screwed up? I was in contention up to a rediculous amount because I can get all the parts it needs at a central source and I can get them for less than most people can. I can also fix the amp most likely. Why anyone would take that amp to such mind-bending prices is simply beyond me. $200 more gets a fully functional amp with tolex already on it.

I think the dude just got caught up in the competition aspect of it.
