How often do you see full stacks

I bet a cranked AC30 is louder than a 100 watt plexi. :P

not really but the ac30 is LOUD when turned up. especially if its loaded with alnico silver/blues. speaker efficiency is probably more important than amp output when it comes to volume. i use a 22w amp with a 100db speaker and its just as loud as many 50w amps.

as to the original question, i dont really see them often at all. but if i went more heavy shows, i bet id see more. the most i see usually is a half stack

the low power tweed twin is a great amp but not super loud, especially since the speakers used typically arent that efficient. my pro reverb is probably louder. the later high power tweed twin had more efficient speakers and is a loud mofo

Generally I am playing with a Deluxe or a Fractal direct. A stack has all of the sound directing forward, so it isn't easy to hear to the right or left of it.

Unless it is a tribute show or a large production show, never. Saw The Stadium Tour last week here in DFW and they had nothing on stage as far as stacks go. Everything is back stage anymore. A local AC/DC Tribute has full stacks for the visual but only one cab is ever running most of the time. Might see a half-stack here and there but very rarely. With IEMs and modern PA systems, there is literally zero reason for a full stack to be anything but a stage prop these days.

Tweeds and BF Twins are not the same. 57 Twin on 3 is basement volume (practice volume when my drummer is using rods instead of sticks). It doesn't get unruly until you push it over 4.

Gotcha. On three, my Silverface Quad (same head as a Twin) will shatter windows. I never played a Tweed Twin, but I would love to. Though a Tweed Bassman was the first amp I ever played through that blew my socks off.

Yeah, you still see them (or fake ones) at 80s band tribute shows, as it is part of the look of the era. So is the excessive volume, too.

I've got both the 5E7 Twin and a 5F6A Bassman. They're super quiet up to about 3. 3-4 is that low to mid volume range. Over 4 is when you want there to be no mistaking you're in the room. Over 6 if you want to start shelling the place. They both sound shockingly good at very reasonable volumes.

Live I use no more than a halfstack, sometimes a mini fullstack with 2 oversized 1x12s stacked vertically. Way easier to transport. That’s if I’m not using my flyrig into the powerblock power section with a decent backline cab, or direct into the board with our own sound guy who knows how to give enough foldback. I’m in the market for a new floor preamp. Maybe a Kraken V4 or Two notes le lead or the amt vt2 if it’s really close enough to the pitbull. Or maybe 2 in parallel to copy my studio blends.

These days, I only see full stacks in pictures or big name concerts. While I love the sound and thump of a stack, my AC 15 and SM57 fit so much better in a Kia Soul.

Shameful to admit, but I've never full-stacked my two Mesa oversized 412s. One is a 2011 true straight-baffle and the other is a late 90s slant-baffle/straight-shell.
I'm not even sure I could see the head's settings if it was on top. That would be a tall stack!

I dove through a stack one time, ended the show -not my best moment.

In Richmond Virginia 1999.

Drugs are bad mkay

This raises the question, who is still buying full stacks and why do you prefer them?

I play half stacks and sometimes twin half stacks in stereo, we use full stacks at practice sometimes, because F@king Metal!

Not having a stack just doesn't work for us old school metal heads.....
