How often does a TRUSSROD require adjustment?

Re: How often does a TRUSSROD require adjustment?

Some of my guitars, like my ESP's and Fenders, never require an adjustment. My other guitars like the Gibson's go out when the temp fluctuates. Often they only require very minimal adjustments. I only makes adjustments when absolutely required. Usually I leave them alone knowing that when the temp returns to normal, so will the neck.

Most of these answers are BS...

It all depends on your situation AND the guitar...I've got guiars that get adjusted several times a year and I have 2 that I've never touched, one of them I've had for well over 10 years now and I've never even so much as pulled the truss rod cover off...

The correct answer is that a truss rod needs adjustment when it needs it...

This is 100% true! Dont listen to anything else.

Re: How often does a TRUSSROD require adjustment?

Have you ever been inside a house when its -40 outside for a large chunk of the year? It gets really dry. Like I said, I do minor tweaks to compensate for that, not anything huge, but it definitely needs to be done unless I want really high action to avoid buzzing the other part of the year.

Like Christian said,

It may be your situation but, this will not be the answer Jerry is looking for so (he lives in Texas and does not have the exact same guitar), therefor it is BS. Point is, it needs to be adjusted when it needs to be adjusted.

This a 101% false ! Don't listen to him !
The correct answer is every 17 days, 13 hours, 4 minutes, 51 seconds and
( if you wish to be precise ) 12 nano seconds.

Re: How often does a TRUSSROD require adjustment?

^ Gibson needed to include a Function on that Robot guitar of theirs which automatically adjusts the trussrod by signals from the atomic clock in Fort Collins Colo., accurate to 10 billonths of a second then.
Actually its becomeing apparent that each guiatar must be taken on a case by case basis and that certain facotrs are involved ,As many have said thier guitars recated adversely to the change in climate, but any or all of these an be inconsequntial if the neck is super-stable? Is that about rihgt? Cause the Breedlove tech came on and gave a general rule of thumb of twice a year, and I trust that comeing from such a proffesional source. So in general Id say check it twice a year and for a lot of necks you may find it requres a tweak?

How often does a TRUSSROD require adjustment?

I have a cheap EPI acoustic that played great over the summer and fall. Picked it up one winter evening and not a single fretted note would ring out. I guess leaving it on a stand all the time doesn't help either, but this thing is real sensitive to climate. I think I need to install an allen wrench holder on it somewhere :)

I haven't adjusted the neck on my Tele for 12 years, yet I have a neck on an Ibanez Proline that shifts with the weather and I need to tweak it on occasion.

The rest I adjust when I need to. I check the relief when I change strings to see.

Same here..... MY main strat has not had a full setup in 15 years, although it could really use a fret dress at this point. I did the intial setup on the Tele and Backup strat and have not had to do much tweaking. My Epi LP's however seem to require regular maintenance :)

Re: How often does a TRUSSROD require adjustment?

In my part of the country (midwest) humidity levels have a big affect on necks. The wood in the neck will swell a little bit in the summer when the humidity levels are high. In the winter they dry out. It's amazing how much a little moisture or lack of can change a neck. Typically truss rod ajustments are a twice a year event for me.

Sprinter

Same here, twice a year, maybe a quarter turn one way or the other for the season.

Re: How often does a TRUSSROD require adjustment?

Some of it depends on where your action is set. If you set it low as possible, you will know if the neck shifts.

That would be correct, I run pretty low action which leaves very little room for flex.
