Picked this up recently, has some features that make it seem old. How old? 80's? I don't know.

  • "Duncan Custom" sticker on base plate, red typed ink
  • No initials indicating the winder
  • No SD logo on the base plate
  • No SH-5 model number
  • Wooden spacer
  • Long legs
  • Braided lead

Re: How old you suppose this is? (old and unusual double cream Duncan Custom)

It appears to be a "prehistoric" Duncan like a double cream SH1 that I own (supposedly bought in Paris in 1978 and evoked in my first topic here: www.seymourduncan.com/forum/showthr...his-quot-Seymourized-quot-built-in-78-please-) ).

I've several of these oldies here. Some of them feature an oval sticker labelled "Seymourized" and a paper sticker with the name of the model. some others have only one of these stickers or no sticker at all...

EDIT: the braided shielded wire appears to be internally coated with a black coton housing featuring a yellow spiral stripe. If it's the case, it's one more indice of a "Seymourized" prehistoric model. :-)

Here's a bit of a close-up, so how old we talking? Late 70's?

If the guy who sold me my double cream SH1 told me the truth about the date of his original purchase, yes, such a PU should be from the late 70's...

I wonder what guitars this thing has been in before coming to me.

Are these the "ivory colored " bobbins?
If so its 79-81.
After that the cream bobbin appeared.
I got 2 of these.
One jazz and one sey pre 59b.

The machining of the pole piece also match that era.
