How`s the DiMarzio Super 3 pup?

Re: How`s the DiMarzio Super 3 pup?

Just had my USA HSS Fender Strat converted to a single bucker (DiMarzio Super 3) single push/pull volume knob and i am very impressed! After seeing mixed reviews about the Super 3 mainly because of the scooped mids i was getting alittle nervous but i am in fact blown away, completely happy with it. If i can find my stupid digital camera i will post a pic of what it looks like now.

When the pup is split it is surprisingly very good also!

Scooped mids???
Where?
Mine is fat...and then some..love it, very all round pickup.

I agree it is awesome, but thats what this pup reputation is all about, scooped mids. Even the description on the DiMarzio website states it has scooped mids and chopped treble. Whatever the case it is an excellent pup and i`m glad i went with it.

Re: How`s the DiMarzio Super 3 pup?

Usually Dimarzio's descriptions are spot on, but with the S3, they were off a bit. I've never heard it as scooped. To me it was big, thick, and loud. A sonic sledgehammer, if you will.

Re: How`s the DiMarzio Super 3 pup?

DiMarzio rates it T3, M8, B6.5, which sounds about right to my ears. Not scooped at all.

I read the DiMarzio copy differently. I won't paste the whole text of the description here, but what they actually say is that the treble is "chopped" and "dark", but that there is a lot of mid "grind." That way you can scoop out your mids at the amp and get both "scream and crunch."

FWIW.

Re: How`s the DiMarzio Super 3 pup?

They are talking about it being good with sounds that is lacking mids....
I use mine for all kinds of sounds.....can get that fat almost hornlike tone with it...or really go into a really blazing sound, and still have fat big sounds..
It is also way cool with old sounds, or just plain different tones.
The pickup height can yield good varying results, good pickup.

Yeah,to me its a very balanced pup but it sure does kick butt if you want it to,awesome!

Re: How`s the DiMarzio Super 3 pup?

I've had the Super 3 in three or four different guitars, including Floyded superstrats and set neck mahogany stuff, and loved it every time. Definitely one of my favorite pickups.

Re: How`s the DiMarzio Super 3 pup?

Played today for awhile and i`m really starting to think the Super 3 might be the best bridge bucker i`ve ever heard...simply awesome!

Re: How`s the DiMarzio Super 3 pup?

Anyone else have an opinion on the Super 3?

Yep thick fat compressed and SMOOOTH! It was the stock pickup in the late 80's Fender HM Strat.
Sounds really nice in a 25.5 scale bolt on but can be muddy in a 24.75 scale set neck. Works best in brighter sounding guitars.

FWIW, the HM was a 25" scale bestie with a basswood body. Sounded great in mine. :cool2:

Re: How`s the DiMarzio Super 3 pup?

BEWARE! Like many other dimarzios the super3 is a "specialty" pup.
it was designed to thicken up the tone. If you play a LP or similar guitar it will sound like ASS !
