How to add resister to JB to reduce high end

Hello all-
I've got a JB going into a build that has 500k pots and it is possible that the combination of wood and pots could end up on the bright end of the JB spectrum.

I thought I remembered past threads that added a resister so that the JB sees 250k instead of 500, but doesn't change the pot itself so that the other pups are not impacted. I imagine this might be enough of a change for this build because I've never had a bright JB with a 250 pot.

I couldn't find the old thread, but thought that I remembered that the trick was adding a 500k resister parallel to the JB and that 500/2 would give the JB a total of 250- but if that was the trick, I haven't been able to make it work--

Can someone confirm this is possible and how it is wired?

Much appreciated!

You put the resistor in parallel with the pickup, that's correct. You can also put one in parallel with the tone knob (or just turn it down). When the JB is combined with other pickups, the effective resistance looking into the input of the volume control will still be 250k (or whatever value you get), assuming you have just a single master volume.

You might try a dedicated tone control for the JB, or temporarily use a tone control to find the right values for a fixed combination to hard-wire.

Another option is to try different types of magnets, though they'll affect more than just the treble.

Thanks Gregory! That's what I thought it was and now I wonder what I wasn't hooking up correctly- I won't be able to get back to this build for a few days, but can you confirm that I am thinking about parallel correctly?

In this case, the JB start lead comes from the pup selector and the end lead from the JB goes to ground. So the resister should start at the same pup selector lug and goes to ground, right?

If that is true, I may have been working later at night than my ears were working:)

Much appreciated!
