How to determin south start/end and North start/end on an humbucker

Hello,

I would like to replace the 4 conductor cable of an old Lundgren m7 pickup.
How can I determine what is the start and the end of each coils? (I noticed that it's not the same order than the lundgren color code I find on the net )

You can do this two ways. You can either use a multimeter or you can just look at where the wires emerge from the coils. If you separate the wires you can start with one wire and then just try the other three wires until you get a continuity or resistance reading on your multimeter. You can then use the multimeter to determine the polarity of each coil by placing a screw driver on the coils pole pieces and then remove it and the reading on the multimeter should read either + or -. You can then compare that to the other pickups on the guitar to get the right phase relationship for the switch when used together. https://guitarelectronics.com/guitar-wiring-resources/humbucker-wire-color-codes/

Thanks I will test the multimeter trick.
One more question : Is it normal to have one coil at 7,4k and the other at 5 ? I always find this pickup noisier than my other pickups ( most are Duncan's)

Its not found on the majority of pickups, but its a known concept of winding pickups. They use fewer windings (unbalacing) or different wire thickness to create a certain sound.

Thanks is there some documentation on this kind of windings? I will buy a winder soon so I try to learn before
