How to fix a loose switch

The switch on my Strat is wearing out. It slides so easily that sometimes i flip right past positions 2 and 4. I know how to solder a new one, but I am cheap and lazy. Can I tighten the action back up somehow?

Its a stock fender switch like the one in the pic. image.jpg

Re: How to fix a loose switch

For the wheel and bumps switch, the expression "tighten up" is inappropriate. There is nothing to which tension can usefully be applied.

If the switch still passes the pickup signals without crackling, it is fit to use. You just need to develop a lighter touch when selecting pickup combinations. Things could be worse, you could be using the vintage style three-way switch to select the five sounds.

I was hoping I could squeeze it with some pliers to tighten the feel, but I guess that'll just break it. Ah well, thanks for letting me know before i f@cked it up!

Well, if you want it tighter its going to be a new switch anyway, so you would have just ended up in the same place anyway had you tried.

Place on a hard surface
With the cupped side of the center axial rivet Facing up
Tap gently with a hammer on the cupped center rivet
Waylaying it will hasten the need for replacement
