How to get a humbucker sound out of a p90 guitar?

Re: How to get a humbucker sound out of a p90 guitar?

Well I recived my Soapbar today but when I took it out of the gig bag I saw it was damaged :( . Sending it back to get a new one so all is well. UPS had to be really really rough with the package to damage the guitar. The guitar was in the gig bag, in the box, and padded heavily with bubble wrap and it still took quite a hit.

I must say that www.wildwoodguitars.com is a great place. I emailed them as soon I noticed the damages and attached the pics to the email. Within minutes of sending the email the phone rang with Lance (very nice guy) of wildwoodguitars. We talked and got everything taken care of. Great customer service.

Here's a suggestion: would Duncan's Pickup Booster pedal help achieve the sound Mantic wants?

What's the basis of your opinion? If your going to post a "review" of a product you should always explain your reasons otherwise it's not helpful at all.

I think i'm going to order the guitar. I'm pretty sure i can accomplish what I want. Wish I had time to wait for Fusion to post his review on the p-90 Super Distortion but these guitar are no longer made and they are getting harder and harder to find.

This is for Fusion1 and Mantic.

Sorry!! I forgot this thread and I didn't saw your questions... :smack: I am sorry I didn't explaint it correctly. I haven't tried any P90 model except the SD P90 vintage (great one!!). I was talking about the looks, I just don't like the 12 polepiece version, I prefer the traditional 6 polepiece. That's way I am biased to the SD P90 stack when it comes to P90 humbuckers. I haven't heard anything about the quality of the tone of this pickup, well, now I did!!

By the way, congrats about your new pickup. Enjoy!!

If you want humbucker sound in a P-90 platform, use the STK-P1 P-90 Stack and wire it in series mode.

But if you REALLY want real-deal-no-compromise-make-it-sound-exactly-like-a-JB-or-Duncan-Custom-or-any-Seymour-Duncan-pickup-model tone, contact Maricela. She and Seymour are now making a humbucker that fits under a P-90 cover. (The opposite of a Phat Cat).

How much do those run? Same as a custom pickup $170?

Hey fusion... Just checking in to see how you're likeing the SD now that you've had it for a while. I've been thinking of going with something a little less extreem. Can you still get a good clean sound out of the SD?

Re: How to get a humbucker sound out of a p90 guitar?

About mixing active and passive, it's very possible, and not that hard. Each pickup just needs it's own volume/tone pot, so the values will be respective to the pickup.

Re: How to get a humbucker sound out of a p90 guitar?

Mantic I am digging the SD bridge. The clean is passable I guess but I never use the bridge for clean tones. Like any higher gain pickup the cleans aren't going to be great. I am still trying to find the ideal Dimarzio neck pickup that will match the SD bridge. My choice are the Virtual p-90, DLX, DXL Plus. I don't really want to lose the tone of the neck pickup maybe just a bit more output but not alot. I hear the DLX pickups are high output so I don;t think they will really retain the warmness of the P-90 tone I love for the neck.

Re: How to get a humbucker sound out of a p90 guitar?

I like the sound of both pickups together. The bridge pickup alone on this guitar is a little thin. Don't know how the SD and stock neck pup would mix, i'm assuming not well..

Re: How to get a humbucker sound out of a p90 guitar?

Any updates? Any new pickups out there to look at? I never made up my mind about pickups so i just decided to play what i had for a while. I definatly want something different now.

Very possibly. I am suprised that no one else has mentioned this. I have a pickup booster, and I think it's best function is to make a single coil pickup sound like a humbucker.

Re: How to get a humbucker sound out of a p90 guitar?

The booster is a step in the right direction for sure. My MXR Micro Amp booster sounds great with the Peavey Firenza earlier in the thread. I bought the booster with the idea to just boost leads and whatknot but it makes everything sound bettter :-)
