How to get "That guy's tone" funny thing...

Re: How to get "That guy's tone" funny thing...

You are either

  1. Too young
  2. Too sober
  3. Too European
...to understand Van Halen.

But potentially all 3.

yeah, probably he likes Blink 182 and Green Day... so he doesn't undestand.

VAN HALEN is one of the greatest rock band in history. period.

Well, let's not presume to know what he DOES like. Maybe he likes Dissection and Immortal. Or Svart Crown and Marțolea.

But probably not Kool and the Gang or The Stooges.

I think what's REALLY ridiculous is the Yngwie malmsteen and Steve Vai signature cables DiMarzio has launched. They go for between $114 and $153 here... For a f*cking THREE METER CABLE!

Yet, some of the greatest guitar playing has been captured using unshielded, oxygen-full copper wire and probably were full of cold solder joints. A cable is a cable. There I said it.

What I don't get is the obsession with nailing a guitar hero's tone off a studio album. Given the processing that probably happened after the sound came out of the speaker (EQ, compression, modulation, reverb, delay), I don't see much point in trying to get that tone to come straight out of the cab.

I personally like to think of the live tone as a more accurate representation of the sound as it should be. I guess it depends on if you consider records or live performance more important.

It sells gear!

The Slash pickups do sound cool, but I couldn't care less about Slash. I'm using a SD Iommi in one guitar and an El Diablo in another, but I'm not trying to sound like Iommi or Scott Ian, I'm trying more to sound like Keith Huckins or Jess Steineger on crack.

You know what makes me laugh about most of this stuff? Most recorded music goes through something similar to this.

How much effect could that possibly have on the sound? :lmao:

Just sayin'
