Listen here man, you were one of the guys who convinced my to start swapping mags in the first place. Then when i got to making hybrids i got hooked and i cant stop. I want to try them all and see what I can come up with. custom 8 is perfect for now until i find something else

Ok, I'll take your word for it.

Listen here man, you were one of the guys who convinced my to start swapping mags in the first place.

What, so now I'm your pusher???? :scratchch

Then when i got to making hybrids i got hooked and i cant stop.

See, that's your problem right there, which I don't have anything to do with! :foot:

Your Honor, I rest my case! :cool2:

I want to try them all and see what I can come up with. custom 8 is perfect for now until i find something else

You need a bloody cold turkey, if you ask me... :chairshot

I kid, I kid. Just yankin' your chain. :nana: ;)

EDIT: I just saw that I forgot the emoticons in the last post... sorry, it happens to men of a certain age, you know?

Hey guys... I will be putting together a few Hybrids in the coming weeks and will try and snap some detailed photos of the process!

Hey man! I'm so happy to see you around!

Let's see if this time the Duncan Co. makes it a friggin' sticky, once and for all... if anything, at least for the due respect they OWE YOU after everything you did, not only for them, but for everybody.

Yours very truly,

Re: HOW TO: Make a 59/Custom Hybrid

I wrote an article on how to make a hybrid. Yes i made the pics myself abd didnt regurgitate someone elses. The article will come online soon.

Re: HOW TO: Make a 59/Custom Hybrid

Just read the whole thread for the first time.

Very inspiring, for one who hasn't opened up a pickup before.

Please bring on your article, orpheo!

I thought this thread was stickied for a few years.

Re: HOW TO: Make a 59/Custom Hybrid

This has got me wondering about a Custom/Alternative 8 hybrid with the A8 mag. Or is there too much difference in the winds between the two?

Re: HOW TO: Make a 59/Custom Hybrid

^^
Not too much, but the Alternative 8 is wound even hotter than the JB.

nop... not true. Can't tell you about the internal specs, but that's not true. There's something with the wire that gives it that DC reading, but it's not wound hotter. Or cooler.

So your saying the wind is the same? That the type of wire has more resistance?

Re: HOW TO: Make a 59/Custom Hybrid

In theory. Wouldn't be TOO much different from a JB/Custom hybrid right?

the difference is there. the alt8/custom is thicker, more articulated. sweeter in the high end but with the same liquid 'feel' when soloing. But in stead of the boost in the upper mids, it's more in the mids. I prefer the FS in stead of the custom due to the hex polepieces; gives me a tighter, cleaner tone with much, much better harmonics. the harmonics are off the charts.

By different I specifically meant between the coils' balance, not in output or tone.

a wind can change from another wind without being more powerful or hotter or whatever. it can differ in terms of emphasizing a different kind of tone or spectrum. I can't tell you if the wire has a higher resistance per foot than the wire used on the JB. Can't. Won't. you decide ;)

@falloffthebones: there is a difference which is subtle but clearly audible. the imbalance between the jb/custom versus alt8/custom is clearly attributable to the differences in the alt8 coil, so there is a difference in the imbalance.

Do I make any sense to you? I'm having a hard time describing what I mean without telling too much...

Right, it is subtle, that was my point. I did expect an audible differerence. We're on the same page.
