Hola B2R & other gurus.

Attached is a photo of my mid operation pups and I want to be sure before I do the final soldering of exactly what I'm doing!!

I will be using the pickup on the left which is the custom custom with the '59 slug coil added (might drop the other in the bridge of my PRS just to see what it's like)

This is how I "think" the wiring should go from reading your posts.....
The #s refer to the photo I have attached..

----CC A2 based hybrid pup (with SD logo)---
#1 black lead from the bottom of the 59 coil should be soldered to #4 the black lead from the CC coil.

#2 black lead from the wound part of the 59 coil should be soldered to #3 the white lead from the CC coil

----59 A5 based hybrid pup----
#5 white lead from the CC coil should be soldered to #7 black lead from the 59 coil.

#6 black lead from the CC coil should be soldered to #8 fat black lead from the 59 coil

-------------------------

Does that sound/look right to you guys? If not would you please let me know which # should be soldered to which other #??

OK I couldn't wait...
First impressions.. .HOLY CRACK...
One day later.. I still love it.. very different sounding that any of my other guitars

I only have a couple ..stock 1990 PRS custom24.. 1999 Tele deluxe w/lil '59 in the bridge and a phat cat in the neck... and the '79 les paul "the paul" that I just refinished and fixed up and dropped the 59/CC A2 hybrid in.

This guitar now punches you in the face with VERY tight balanced tone. It really sounds more like an SG than a les paul but it is a thin walnut body in the SG weight range and really not what would be considered a traditional les paul. Each string is clearly audible. I had to dial it in height & screw wise for a few hours to get it just right and fiddle with my amp to find the new sweet spots but now that it's set up I am really happy with how "tight" and punchy it sounds.

To me it seems like it compresses a bit under really high gain but just to the point where it smooths things out and doesn't quite get into squashing your dynamics. Under mid gain I could have sworn Angus was playing Highway to Hell right along with me. PUNCHY!! WOW!!! everything ringing out loud and clear.

Anyway I am stoked .. thanks to BTR & the forums in general for being here. Here's a pic of the still waiting on a z-9o '79 LP with the hybrid in it.

Oh yeah.. The CC/59 A2 measured 11.2k ohms and the 59/CC A5 measures 11.3k.

Just drop a 59/Jazz Hybrid in the Neck and you will be in tone heaven...

Okay, I just installed mine yesterday and I'm really impressed! I'm comparing it to my Tom Holmes 455. The Holmes is more even and a bit more harmonic, but the hybrid is more gutsy. I'd have to say that it's definitely better for the VH thing. It has that great A2 compression thing going on with the high notes. I very happy with the pickup and would rank it right up there with the best of them. Thanks Bachtorock!! :)

I made a set of jb/custom hybrids, and I am thinking the '59/custom hybrid are more what I am looking for. I play a Wolfgang, and I'd really like to know what neck pickup wiould be the perfect match for a '59/custom hybrid. I like the sound of a PGn, and I tried a Jazz and it was a little too bassy for me.

I started to drift a little on really digging it but am back to enjoying it wholeheartedly for what it does... gives me yet another totally useable sound in my arsenal. The punch just slams through a mix yet blends nicely when dialed in to really start thickening up a wall of guitars or sit on top and accent things. For me it is a little too ... hmmm ... "spanky" & "sizzley" for shreddy type soloing up past the 12th fret yet it excels at lower register more blues tinged hard rock stuff.

My weird little '79 "the paul" is a freaking bone cruncher rythm machine with the 59/custom A2 hybrid in it..

For reference the gtr is:
Walnut body & neck
Ebony fingerboard
8.4 lbs.

Alright guys I'm going to do this but I need a little more info first. The guitar is a Mahogany body, maple neck w/Floyd rose. Considering the tonal quality of this combination, what would be the best choice for the hybrid?
Custom screw/'59 slug?
'59 screw/Custom slug?
A5 mag?
A2 mag?
Just straight up humbucker, no splitting or coil tap.

I find that which coil is the screw or slug really does not make a difference unless you are splitting... though it would seem to make sense that you would want the stronger Custom coil closer to the bridge as the strings vibration is weaker there...
A5 or A2 is a total matter of preference... I generally say start with A5 sice this a a beefed up PAF tone... if you need more mids then try the A2

Ok tried to make 2 myself-Bach to Rock thanks for the pics/diagram. However..I am stuck with confusion all over...Very depressing but mine keep sounding thin and weak when I install them? I did work with a CC and a 59B to start with.

For example, after last ty: bridge (hybrid) reads 11,46. Both read 4,6 and neck (Alnico pro) is 7,61.

Also before I installed the bridge/hybrid it read 7,4 on the 1 coil (green/red and 4,3 on the 2nd coil.

My guess is I have the pickup out of phase with the rest of the guitar?

The 2nd hybrid from the same but opposote set is about 10,4 ohms only? Also thin..:-(

Please advice. I am sorry if I already covered previous topics as I tried to find them in thsi tread I could not though..

Folks, if you do not like the ghetto look of electrical tape on your pickups after you are done making the hybrid, you can re-use the old tape that was pulled of the pickups. If the tape was removed correctly from the get go and you re-wrap the coils with it, it will look like the pickup is from the factory. Most of the time the factory tape has enough tackiness but if it dosent, just put a small dap of epoxy on the end and you will be all good.

Still having 2 on the surgeory table that have 10,5/11,5 ohms but sound weak en thin as they are out of phase orso? HELP

Sounds like you are OUT-OF-PHASE...

Make sure the WHITE lead wire of the SLUG coil connects to WHITE and the BLACK connects to BLACK

The WHITE lead wire of the SCREW coil connects to RED and the BLACK connects to GREEN(or the baseplate/ground on a 2 conductor pickup)

On a 2-conductor pickup the WHITE lead wires from each coil are soldered together and taped

On many 59 models, both lead wires are BLACK... the one coming from the bottom of the bobbin is the true black one.
