How to remove a faceplate from a Fender amp??

Re: How to remove a faceplate from a Fender amp??

If you can get a razor blade in between th chassis and the plate at the corner it should just peel off from that point. The hard part is getting it started!

If I remember correctly, you have to remove the chassis, and unscrew the tone and volume controls and the faceplate should come right off.

remove the knobs, then the nuts for the pots that are under the knobs, and the nuts on the input jacks, also the bezel around the on / off indicator lamp. After that it should come off pretty easily, might be a bit of glue but a putty knife would work good to seperate the faceplate from the chassis.
Note that if you are going to use a repro Fender black faceplate on an older silverface Fender amp, you will have to enlarge the holes, the new amps use smaller diameter pots.
Easy to do with a good drill bit or Unibit.

Several of the blackface amps have a brass plate under the face plate.

I assume it's for grounding or shielding.

seems like a lot of work just to change the look to a Blackface... I guess the speaker grill should be changed too? I thought that was different on BF's too?

What's wrong with the SF look?
