But boy - does he ever use a lot of reverb! :argh:

Pointless thread, and not even on topic. Ragging on Yngwie went out of style after his chest hair went out of control. You're one of those who still laughs at the same Petrucci parodies on Youtube.

Ragging on Yngwie never goes out of style. Neither does ragging on Petrucci.

Re: How to shred like Yngwie Malmsteen!

I like the Yngster - mucho respect.

Its not my thing these days, tho.

I mean absolutely no offense: I enjoy you being a part of the community, but I think you're getting a little too defensive. Yeah. it sucks/it's annoying when someone bags on your hero(s), but you could just say "their loss". You get something, enjoyment, where another person misses out on it.

Personally I think Yngwie does a lot of interesting stuff, but I think allowing some air to breathe when playing would make the "wow" moments stand out much better. For this video in particular; too much reverb is too much reverb. Clean it up a bit. He also has a goofy character - I don't think he takes himself as seriously as some people would think.

I like people that don't take it so seriously, when they take it super serious it turns me off and doesn't make me want to watch anymore. thats all I got.

If you can't make fun of things you hold dear, chances are you probably take life too seriously.

Who gives a **** what anyone thinks.

For anyone who bags yngwie, at least go try and learn something of his it might give you some respect for his work. I can honestly see how it can turn people off but he is imo a great guitarist who has defined an entire genre of music.

My bad. I didn't pay attention when posting.

Who's ragging on Yngwie? Not me.

I liked it because he comes off as being a pretty likable guy.

I saw it on TGP, thought it was a cool guitar video and shared it on the Guitar Shop Page.

That's about it.

I mean, I could have shared it on the Off Topic Page but it's not about farts or pistols so I shared it on the Guitar Shop Page.

BTW, he does use a lot of reverb. ;)

Sorry, I misunderstood... absconding...

"I don't know that many simple things."

"I actually took my clothing idea from Albert Einstein."

:chairfall

As for the reverb.....he's playing a Marshall MG on a sound stage with hard walls. Most music in those circumstances sounds all washed out.

I have a few late 90's Korean pre-Fender Dearmonds like the show host. Those are excellent guitars you can find cheap nowadays. Guild quality w/USA pickups for $300

Re: How to shred like Yngwie Malmsteen!

I prefer earlier Yngwie. Insane vibrato here...

Re: How to shred like Yngwie Malmsteen!

Somehow, I never get tired of that sound of his. Even with a lot of reverb.

Re: How to shred like Yngwie Malmsteen!

The host isn't a total hack. He does some faux-shredding at the end.
I think he and Yngwie would have sounded better together if their two guitars were in tune with each other. I can't believe they'd do a TV show and not plug in to an electronic tuner and make sure they're both tuned up first.

Probably to make the host sound extra bad I reckon. Kinda overkill if you're up against Yngwie though.
