How to use an overdrive as a boost??

I own a boss blues driver, which i guess is kind of like a tube screamer.

how can i use this as a boost , for more gain?

should i run it through my fx loop?

Set the level as high as it goes, then adjust the gain until you get enough of a boost.

The BD is different from a TS, it is much more transparent.

If you want to use it as a boost, run the level up high, the gain fairly low and set the tone to taste.

Do not run it through the effects loop.

Because it won't overdrive your preamp....using the effects loop basically bypasses the preamp. Modulation effects sound good through the loop (delay, chorus, etc.) OD's and boosts sound better before the preamp.

Never tried it myself...I don't know how it would sound after the amp"s tonestack.

Nope, Ive tried that and It sounded thin and weak.

Well, my wah is damged so i cant try that...

a phaser would sound better there right?

You could try it, although a phaser is similar to a wah in how it sweeps a notched frequency range.
