How would you get this Fender closet classic pink?

I am about to get a new sugar pine body. Could this be done with Mary Kaye white with a hint of red dye, or maybe with shell pink or coral lacquer? It's just a beautiful color...

Depends an how "pure" you want your pink. Starting with MK white will give you a dull, slightly muddy looking pink. Coral will give you an orangy pink.

Star with pur white base coat then add coats of pink made with pure white with a red dye in an amount to give you what you want.

Thanks doc. I know Olympic white has a more blue hue to it, so in the fender (reranch) colors would you start with arctic white? I definitely want to keep it translucent, so would you add your mix into clear to minimize the cover?

Yes, if you want it semi-transparent/translucent, use clear with arctic white and a few drops of red dye. I think arctic white is just a zinc oxide or titanium oxide base color which is pretty pure white.

It doesn't look pink to me. It looks like yellowed white blonde.

I'd do white blonde over a very thin coat of honey blonde. Or I might let the pine yellow for a bit in some UV, and then spray white blonde on it. You could also lightly dye the pine with an amber lacquer-compatible dye first – yellow, pink, whatever color you want.

See if whoever makes you the body can also provide you with four or five test scraps from the same blank.

No, it has a very slight pink tint to it, but I can see blond highlights too. Maybe that is the nautual wood coming through?

Tell me that pink color is for a girl, right?

No it's not. So even in 2013 pink is for girls and blue is for boys? I missed the telegram

I´d get it a paper bag and a refinish, but that´s just me :laugh2:

*edit* Ups, How, not what, sorry :D

Essentially it´s the same as a Mary Kay White finish with pink pigments added. The hardest part will probably be mixing to match the exact color, assuming you already know how to do a BS or Mary Kay white ;)

That looks like transparent white over alder, with the alder supplying the pink hue.

I posted this on my iPad last night and with the glass screen it looked much more pink. I can see on my lcd laptop now that it looks more of a trans blonde.

There are too many colors and too many light filters in this world. Even so many shades of white / blonde :banghead:

This is a good point, I just realized depending on how I have my LCD configured it´s everything between "standard" mary kay white and almost pink coral, which makes me think Lew may well be on the right track... :friday:

OK, so I read this post wrong. I paid too much attention to the title and thought you were starting with the Tele in the picture and going after a true PINK for it.

The problem you'll have is trying to match that color with spray cans. Looks like you'll need clear with some arctic white as a base color, with a touch of butterscotch blonde and coral added for the pinkish tint. The best way of doing this is get a quart of Behlen nitro lacquer and 4 oz of white pigment (for lacquer) from Stewmac, and get a can each of Butterscotch Blonde and Coral from Reranch to use as tints. You'll need spray equipment (compressor, regulator, gun, hose). This becomes a big investment, but it's the only way you'll be able to get the exact color that you want.

Either that or take it to a professional to paint it.
