How would you hot rod this???

Re: How would you hot rod this???

Paint it black, add a mirror pickguard, and install a DirtyFinger in the bridge.

Oh wait...

Theres really only one thng that could save a guitar like that for someone who owns some of the worlds best ever tone Lesters like the Ace.
Thats a set of Actives.

Face it- those Studio guitars are far and away pretty much tone turds for anything but slapping a hot humbucker into and running through a high gain squashed signal..

Thumbs up on the Kahler. I don't understand how Floyd Roses have become more popular than Kahlers.

Eddie Van Halen? Dimebag Darrell? Legions of guitar heroes who inspire their fans to find Floyd Rose trems instead of Kahlers?

Because Kahler looks ugly. I like a Floyd on my guitar even though my style doesn't need it, cause it looks very cool especially the protruding screws on OFR.

Kahler on LP =
- Less route
- No fills

It's just easier.

Is that really you or are you trying to break the "Aceman" stereotype? :D

I had you pegged for a non-trem kind of guy. Just be prepared to reinforce strings - take it from someone who's had a Kahler for almost 30 years.

I am a non-trem guy.

However, if the guitar is an LP and Trem is the question, Kahler is the answer.

Re: How would you hot rod this???

That blue needs mostly black against it, with a few white accents, not just all black. I'd do:

Black and white (not cream) reverse zebra Bluesbuckers. Nickel hardware. Standard wiring with black bell knobs. Hipshot locking keystone tuners. Tusq XL nut. Plug bridge holes and install nickel ABR-1 and matching tailpiece. Replace truss rod cover with a plain one. Install b/w/b pick guard and install black screws on the pick guard, pickup rings, and jack plate. Dye the fretboard black. Install three-ply jack plate.

This gives an idea of what I am talking about. A multi-ply pick guard was not an option in the program, so I just used a black one. Multi-ply would look a lot better. Also, I could not make the pick guard screws black without also making the bracket black. What I'd do if it was mine would be to keep the nickel bracket and the one chrome screw that holds the bracket to the side of the body, and just replace the two screws that go through the pick guard with black ones.

Short of adding white binding to the neck and body, I think this is about as hot looking as you can get with that color.

I have been using Boomer on my Kahler for years with no problems. I am yet to break a string.

It is all preference. I can't stand the look of a Floyd or the feel. I love my Kahler 7200

Re: How would you hot rod this???

I popped plain strings all the time when my Jackson was in heavy rotation. Then again - I was young and dumb - using the pull up interval available in stock form.

Since my refurb done last year - I really have not played it so much as it is a hummer. Also has a RWRP middle that has to go!!!! I think a set of Fishmans is destined for it.

I'm also a recent GHS string convert from D'Addario - Boomers are the Bomb!

FTR - I'm not anti-Kahler or Floyd. They have their place, but with locking tuners available now they are unnecessary in many cases. I'm just a keep it stock kind of guy in my old age, but in this case if a Vibrato Bar must go in - my penny is on the beautifully machined Kahler bridge. A Floyd on that body would be like a mustache on the Mona Lisa.

Re: How would you hot rod this???

2 push pulls for series/parallel

3x500k (including a master tone with a .022 or w/e sprague tone caps wired '50s style) and 1 dual ganged 100kb spin-a-split to the "slug" coils

Uncovered & unpotted zebra 3+3 neck humbucker wound to ~7k with 42 awg plain enamel OR uncovered zebra seth lover neck flipped (a la peter green)

Zebra pearly gates bridge

Hmmmmm

Locking tuners, tusq xl nut, locking bridge/studs/etc

Because it's a les paul there isn't much I would do with the bridge. I'm kind of meh about double locking tremolos on les pauls. On a strat sure but not my cup of tea on a LP.

Re: How would you hot rod this???

Why not make a Blue Ace out of it?

Other than that, crazier things have been done to Les Pauls...
